Jennifer Lawrence’s Winter-Warm Style Mixes Bold and Basic Pieces — a Look Jennifer Lopez Has Worn, Too

Welcome to The Blueprint, where we break down the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and build them back up, piece by piece.

Sometimes I feel like I’m back in school again and Jennifer Lawrence is my professor. The name of the class? Style 101.

And the No Hard Feelings actress just re-taught me one of the most important lessons I learned long ago: It’s A-okay to mix basic and bold pieces when putting together outfits. On February 3, the 34-year-old was spotted in a vivid blue sweater and plain black pants, which alone, would have been just another minimal The Row-coded look from the star.

But then Lawrence layered an animal print coat overtop, transforming the look from tame to eye-popping — a classic style maneuver that Jennifer Lopez also pulled at the end of 2024. Hailey Bieber, Elsa Hosk, Rihanna, and Sofia Richie Grainge have also worn similar toppers.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Outfit Blueprint

Utcoco Leopard Coat

Lawrence and Lopez may have totally different styles, but they clearly agree that a leopard or cheetah coat can dress up everything from black pants to classic denim, respectively. Surprisingly, I thought I wouldn’t have any trouble finding some options to share, but honestly, many of the styles I initially found were very low in stock. (They’re popular, I told you!)

After some deeper research, I came across this $63 calf-length style that’s longer like Lawrence and Lopez’s, as well as this one that has a cool striped effect that looks a bit more springy.

Gap 100% Cotton Relaxed Sweater

Anytime I see a bright blue sweater, I think of Meryl Streep’s cerulean monologue in The Devil Wears Prada, so, of course, I’m a fan. This one, in particular, is “the prettiest shade of blue” and “so bright and cheery,” according to one shopper. It’s also cotton, which is one of the least itchy fabrics in my book, and I appreciate that it has thick hems, which look like they’ll lay nicely.

Old Navy High-Waisted Pull-On Pixie Wide-Leg Pants

There’s a lot of things that need to be just right in order for me to buy a pair of pants: They must be stretchy, and, more importantly, I want them to be so comfortable that I forget I’m wearing them. For me, that’s mostly wide-leg styles, which Lawrence’s appear to be, with flexible waistbands like this $35 pair. I can wear the regular inseam, but should I want to wear heels (or match with my 4’11” and  5’11’’ coworkers), it’s comforting to know other options are available.
