Welcome to The Blueprint, where we break down the celebrity looks we want to wear right now and build them back up, piece by piece.
Today, I’m full of fashion regrets.
Earlier this week, Jennifer Lawrence, 34, was seen on a date with her husband Cooke Maroney, and it brought up different emotions: I definitely should have purchased that red sweater I once put back on the rack. Because now, J.Law’s stepped out in one multiple times.
In her latest sighting, she had on a $95 white T-shirt and a $275 red sweater from La Ligne. On the bottom, she wore a fluid black maxi skirt and $890 slip-on shoes from The Row. None of the pieces in the pregnant star’s ‘fit were overly tight or clingy, and if it got too cold wherever she was going, she could always have taken the sweater off her shoulders and worn it like normal. How versatile!

Amazon Essentials V-Neck Sweater
Celebrities are wearing comfy cardigans almost nonstop, but V-necks are a bit more rare. Something like this Amazon option is a little slender, too, so it could even be worn under another cardigan, as many shoppers have done. One said it “feels like cashmere on the skin but not on the wallet” and noted that they “hold up well throughout wear and washing.”
Yincro Pleated Maxi Skirt
Something must be in the air because it’s getting harder to tell whether celebs are wearing skirts or pants. For example, Oprah just sported a pair of pleated pants that could also be confused for a skirt. In other words, bottoms are getting bigger and more elusive.
I’m a fool for a good maxi skirt, and I found one for under $40. It’s got both elastic and a drawstring on the waist — the best combo, in my opinion — and the soft pleats are like ones on casual trousers. For pants, wide-leg styles with a “soft, fluid fabric,” which is how one reviewer described these Sweaty Betty pants, would be another great option.
Hanes Essentials T-Shirt
A white T-shirt is a good layering basic to stock up on. This Hanes T-shirt is only $8, and it’s made from 100 percent cotton. It also has a scoop neckline like J.Law’s and isn’t too boxy or cropped. The small and medium are currently sold out, but it’s still in stock in sizes XS and L-XXL.
Birdies The Vesper Slippers
I used to be such a sneakerhead, but there’s something so sweet about not lacing up your shoes. J.Law’s loafers have a rounded toe, similar to this style from Birdies, which is a brand Sarah Jessica Parker has worn. Plus, they’re designed with faux fur on the inside and suede on the outside.
Her shoes also remind me of ballet flats (another popular celeb trend), so I’m shopping for an affordable pair of those as well.
