Jennifer Hudson got candid about how she’s “fighting” for her talk show, The Jennifer Hudson Show, to remain on-air.
Two network daytime shows will conclude airing later this year. Last month Sherri Shepherd’s show Sherri was cancelled after being on air for four seasons.
On the other hand, Kelly Clarkson called it quits on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show after it aired for seven seasons.
Although one decision was made by the network and the other by the talent, daytime TV has been going through a lot of changes as of late.
Luckily, Jennifer’s show was renewed for its fifth season last month and the actress intends to keep it that way.
Jennifer’s take
Jennifer empathetically shared: “They are amazing, both Kelly and Sherri, and we’re all in this together. I just want to continue to make them proud and cheer them on whatever they decide to do in the future,” per People.
Being that a lot of viewers have transitioned from watching TV to streaming instead, Jennifer understands the difficulty that comes with maintaining viewership in this day and age.
The TV host’s “fight”
Nonetheless, the TV host is keeping her eye on the prize and will continue “fighting” for her spot in the everchanging media landscape.
Jennifer proclaimed: “We’re gonna be airing episodes all through the fall. And we’re going to continue to fight to keep this show alive in some way, shape or form.”
She continued: “If anybody knows me, they know I’m a fighter. I don’t know exactly what it’s going to look like, but I promise, I am going to continue to spread joy.”
Her plan
One of the ways that Jennifer has kept viewers engaged is through her popular Split Tunnel, which invites her show’s talent to dance through a lively hallway full of her employees who sing and cheer on the interviewees right before they go on stage.
Not only is the act a hit during the talk show itself, but clips of talent have gone viral online, which has surely brought in a younger audience.
Moving forward, Jennifer has an impressive talent wish list that will surely keep viewers intrigued.
She expressed: “I’ve been blessed to have a lot of great guests come to the show. I would love to see Barack Obama come through the Spirit Tunnel. I would love to see Denzel Washington, Halle Berry. I want to say Cher, but she’s already been to the show. I’m a huge fan of Sean Penn, too. I would love to have Sean Penn on the show.”
The EGOT winner’s show first premiered in September 2022. The talk show was nominated for the 2025 Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Talk Series and Outstanding Host.
