Jennifer Garner’s understated new engagement ring tells a very different love story

Jennifer Garner has always let her actions speak louder than words, so it’s perhaps no surprise that her apparent engagement ring made its debut without any announcement at all.

The actress sparked engagement speculation this week after she shared a video of her striking diamond ring on her left hand while celebrating the renewal of her hit series The Five Star Weekend.

The diamond quietly appeared during the celebration, prompting fans to wonder whether longtime partner John Miller had proposed.

If so, the ring marks a striking contrast to the one Jennifer famously received from ex-husband Ben Affleck more than two decades ago.

A very different style

According to engagement ring expert Nilesh Rakholia, founder of Abelini, Jennifer’s apparent new ring appears to feature a four to five-carat diamond set on a classic yellow gold solitaire band.

Based on the visible size and quality of the stone, he estimates its value to be around $250,000.

But despite its impressive price tag, it’s the ring’s simplicity that stands out. “Jennifer has always had a very natural approach to fashion,” Nilesh told HELLO! “She tends to choose pieces that feel timeless rather than trend-driven.”

He believes the solitaire setting perfectly reflects that understated aesthetic, allowing the diamond to remain the focal point without elaborate detailing.

A departure from Ben Affleck’s famous proposal

The new design couldn’t be more different from the engagement ring Ben Affleck gave Jennifer when he proposed in 2005.

That Harry Winston ring featured a 4.5-carat cushion-cut diamond flanked by baguette side stones and was reportedly worth around $500,000.

“It was very much a reflection of engagement ring trends at the time,” says Nilesh. “More detailed settings and additional stones were especially popular.”

By comparison, Jennifer’s apparent new ring embraces the growing trend towards understated luxury.

“The design feels cleaner, more contemporary and much more focused on craftsmanship and the quality of the centre stone.”

A quiet love story

The jewellery itself isn’t the only thing that reflects Jennifer’s approach to romance. Unlike many celebrity engagements, there was no public announcement or staged reveal.

“What I find interesting is that this was not a traditional engagement announcement,” Nilesh says.

“The ring was simply noticed during a moment of happiness as Jennifer celebrated a professional achievement.”

He believes that perfectly mirrors Jennifer’s relationship with businessman John Miller, which the couple have kept largely out of the spotlight since they first began dating in 2018.

“They have always kept their connection relatively private, so a quiet reveal feels much more in keeping with their story.”

Elegant without being flashy

If the diamond is indeed an engagement ring, the expert believes it captures Jennifer’s personality perfectly. “The diamond is undoubtedly impressive, but the simplicity of the setting keeps the overall look refined,” he says.

“It feels like a piece chosen to be worn and enjoyed every day rather than simply admired from a distance.”

He adds: “It is elegant without being excessive, luxurious without feeling flashy and classic without feeling predictable.”

The 13 Going On 30 star previously shared that she had no immediate plans to marry again, and was focused on raising her three children, Violet, Fin and Samuel. “I don’t know. I’m so far from it,” she told People. 

“And I don’t know that marriage would need to be a part…I mean, I definitely don’t think that I’ll be single forever. But this is not the time. I don’t need to complicate it; I’m good.” Jennifer was married to Ben from 2005 to 2015, and to Felicity star Scott Foley from 2000 to 2003. She shares her three kids with Ben.
