Jennifer Coolidge Reacts to Tanya’s Ex-Husband Returning in The White Lotus Season 3: ‘I Hope He Gets It!’

Jennifer Coolidge thinks Jon Gries’ White Lotus character has what’s coming to him!

The actress, 63, reacted to the latest installment of the Mike White-led anthology series and Gries’ surprise cameo in episode one.

In previous seasons of The White Lotus, Coolidge became a fan-favorite for her role as Tanya McQuoid. In season 2, her ditsy-but-lovable character met her demise while fighting back against her husband Greg (Gries)’s ongoing plot to murder her and run off with her fortune.

Her famous line, “Please, these gays, they’re trying to murder me,” led to thousands of memes and internet recreations, making it one of the show’s most iconic moments.

“As you know, Jon Gries has shown up,” Coolidge told Forbes of season 3. “I hope he gets it! I hope they do something terrible to him.”

She said of the new installment, “It’s really eerie — you’re not quite sure what people are up to yet. My guess? Something’s going to go horribly wrong. I think it’s really going to go wrong. Mike White, he wants us to have it all, I think. I can’t wait.”

Fans were disappointed when the season 2 ended with Tanya’s death, hoping they’d get to see more of her in the future. But in 2023, Coolidge said her character’s untimely death was always a part of White’s plan.

“Mike was looking for a big Italian opera ending, and it was big and dramatic,” she explained. “So he wanted me to die for many reasons.”

“But I also think Tanya’s a lot,” she continued, joking: “Maybe people would get sick of her on another season. Maybe people would be like, ‘Oh my God, get rid of Tanya!'”

Season 3 follows new dynamics among the vacationers: Leslie Bibb (Kate), Michelle Monaghan (Jaclyn) and Carrie Coon (Laurie) are “longtime friends” taking a trip together; Walton Goggins (Rick) and Aimee Lou Wood (Chelsea) are an oddly-matched couple; and Parker Posey (Victoria) and Jason Isaacs (Timothy) are on a trip with their three children, Patrick Schwarzenegger (Saxon), Sarah Catherine Hook (Piper) and Sam Nivola (Lochlan).
