Jenna Bush Hager is demonstrating that maybe honesty really is the best policy.
On the Tuesday, Jan. 7, episode of The Today with Jenna & Friends, Bush Hager admitted to her co-host, Hoda Kotb, during a game segment called âWe Listen and We Donât Judgeâ that she had lost the Christmas gift Kotb had given her.
However, the very next day on the show, Bush Hager announced that she had found the missing necklace.
âYou gave me a beautiful Christmas present this year and I think it somehow got thrown out,â Bush Hager, 43, admitted to Kotb during the Jan. 7 segment. âI canât find it anywhere. Iâve been searching and searching and searching.â
Kotb, for her part, didnât seem bothered by the missing gift. The Today anchor, 60, couldnât stop laughing during the segment.
The next day, Bush Hager returned to the show, revealing to Kotb that she had found the missing present â an adorable, heart-shaped gold pendant on a thin chain.
âOn social media, we did something called, âWe listen and we donât judge.â And I had something that was weighing on my heart, no pun intended, in a big way,â Bush Hager explained on the Jan. 8 episode of the show, about losing the gift from her friend.
âWell I wondered why you never wore it, but I thought, âMaybe you didnât like it?ââ Kotb replied. âAnd you said â we did this little confessional thing â and you said, âIâm afraid to say it, Iâm afraid to say it, Iâm afraid to say it.â And I was like, âWhat are you afraid to say?â And you saidâŠâ
âYou gave me a Christmas present, and I lost it,â Bush Hager filled in, laughing.
âAnd we both kind of laughed and laughed,â Kotb said.
Bush Hager revealed that the necklaceâs designer, Jen Miller, had contacted her later to send her a new one. However, while she was cleaning her bathroom the same night, she found the heart-shaped necklace on her counter.
âAnd what I realized is that if you feel bad about something, you have to just say it and itâll come home. And it came home!â Bush Hager said.
Kotb added on: âRight, if you had harbored the secret, you probably never would have found it! But you said it, it was out. And then you FaceTimed me. You were like, âGuess what!â You were screaming. And then I saw it.â
The fun social media moment and ensuing hijinks come just days before Kotbâs last day on Today, following her announcement in September that sheâd be leaving after 25 years with NBC.
Kotb has big plans for her post-Today time. On the Monday, Jan. 6, episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, she told host Kelly Clarkson and viewers that she plans to start a wellness company, which will involve retreats and a podcast and will launch this spring.

âWe can get together, do things that I love and when youâre done, itâs not like going to Mexico with your girls, which is fun, but this is something that when you leave, youâll go like, âOh my gosh. I feel transformed. I feel different,â â she told Clarkson. âSo Iâm in the building process of that.â
Today dubbed Kotbâs final week a âHoda-bration,â kicking off the fun by reuniting Kotb with 70 of her former Tri Delta sorority sisters from Virginia Tech on Jan. 6. Bush Hager also teamed up with one of Kotbâs favorite authors, Charlie Mackesy, author of The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse, and gifted her a special painting.
After Kotb departs, Bush Hager revealed sheâll have a lineup of celebrity guest cohosts, including Taraji P. Henson, Eva Longoria, Keke Palmer and Scarlett Johansson.
âNobody will ever fill this chair, but the three of them sure can try,â Bush Hager said on Today on Monday, Jan. 6.
Kotbâs final episode of Today and Today with Hoda and Jenna will air on Friday, Jan. 10.
