The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jen Affleck recently completed an 11-day wellness program to help heal past “trauma.”
“Spent 11 days away from my loved ones, focusing on healing and working through trauma,” Affleck, 25, wrote via Instagram Stories on Tuesday, March 4, sharing a program from the Golden Wellness Co. “It was definitely one of the most challenging yet impactful experiences I’ve ever had.”
Jen, who is currently pregnant with her and husband Zac Affleck’s third baby, further offered a glimpse into her treatment regimen.
“Here are some moments: moments of learning, moments of processing, moments of pain and moments of healing,” she captioned a follow-up post of one of her therapy sessions. “It’s not every day that you have the chance to be surrounded by professionals and mentors who dedicate their time to support you. I am truly grateful to everyone who made this possible.”
Jen’s program also included yoga sessions, equine therapy and art classes.
“This is an art piece I created after one of my most difficult trauma sessions,” she wrote, showcasing a DIY painting of a grassy meadow. “Because of that, this painting will always hold a special place in my heart.”
While Jen focused on her mental health, Zac stayed home with their children, Nora, 3, and Luca, 19 months.
“Not the pregnancy journey I expected, but definitely what baby and I needed,” Jen added, before quoting a proverb by an unknown speaker. “‘When we heal ourselves, we heal the next generation that follows. Pain is passed through the family line until someone is ready to feel it, heart it and let it go.’”
While Jen did not further clarify what led her to seek treatment, she also reposted an Instagram video explaining how generational trauma is passed down from parents and children.
Weeks earlier, Jen announced that she is pregnant with baby No. 3.
“I’ve always dreamed of a big family, and seeing that dream come true is both exciting and fulfilling,” she told People on February 11. “It can be daunting to think about raising three babies while pursuing my career, but I want to show women and mothers that they can achieve anything they set their minds to, no matter how unrealistic it may seem.”
Jen’s marriage to Zac, who claims to be a distant cousin of Ben Affleck, was highlighted in season 1 of The Secret Life of Mormon Wives, which aired last year. In the finale, Zac claimed he was done with their marriage after Jen and her costars planned to go to a Chippendales revue in Las Vegas. (Jen and Zac, like most of the Secret Lives cast, are devout members of the Church of Latter-Day Saints.)
“I definitely think it was the best thing to happen to our relationship. While watching the show, a lot of people are going to think that maybe this would break our relationship apart. But if anything, it did the opposite,” Jen exclusively told Us Weekly in September 2024. “Being on camera and having those moments happen made us take a step back and actually look at a relationship and make us just see what we have to change.”
She added, “Ever since we finished filming, we’ve been doing nonstop therapy and it’s been great. So if anything, [watching the show] is just going to be exposure therapy at this point.”
