Jean Smart is coming back to the boards.
The six-time Emmy Award winning actress is returning to Broadway this spring, in the world premiere of Jamie Waxâs new play, Call Me Izzy.
Directed by Sarna Lapine (Sunday in the Park with George), the production will play a 12-week limited engaged at New York Cityâs Studio 54 from May 24 to Aug. 17, with an opening night set for June 12.
Itâll be the first time Smart has been on the Rialto in 25 years. In 2000, Smart led a revival of the  George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart classic The Man Who Came to Dinner, alongside comedic legends Nathan Lane, Julie Halston and Harriet Harris. Her performance earned her a Tony Award nomination.
Smartâs Broadway debut came in 1981, playing Marlene Dietrich in Piaf.
Per an official release, Call Me Izzy âis a darkly comedic story about one woman in rural Louisiana who has a secret that is both her greatest gift and her only way out.â Itâs described as âa moving tour de force portrait of a woman who resists being silenced by embracing her tenacity, humor and fiery imagination.â
The playâs has had several developmental readings, man of which Smart has been a part of.
Smart, meanwhile, became a household name thanks to her iconic role as the effervescent Charlene Frazier Stillfield in the 1986 CBS sitcom Designing Women.
She went on to win six Emmys for her roles as Lana Gardner in NBCâs Frasier, Regina Newley in ABCâs Samantha Who? and, most recently, Deborah Vance in the HBO Max comedy, Hacks. She also earned nominations for her work in The District, Harryâs Law, Fargo, Watchmen and Mare of Easttown.

Other notable roles on screen include include The Brady Bunch, Sweet Home Alabama, Garden State, I Heart Huckabees, The Accountant A Simple Favor and Babylon.
In 2016, Smart earned a Grammy nomination for best spoken word album after narrating Patience and Sarah.
