Jax Taylor is embracing a fresh start following his departure from The Valley.
“He’s doing really well. Jax has been sober now for over one year and 3 months,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “He had even stopped smoking weed and it’s been six months.”
The insider added that Taylor, 46, “has moved” to “another home” and remains “close” to his and Brittany Cartwright’s son, Cruz, 4. On Tuesday, February 17, Taylor shared a clip of him getting settled into his new place.
“New chapter 🏡 Grateful to @roadwaymoving for making this move smooth and stress-free from start to finish,” he captioned the Instagram Reel. “Here’s to new beginnings 😊🙏.”
Taylor’s new direction has “completely transformed his life,” per the source.
“He doesn’t go out and is very intentional with who he spends his time with,” the insider explains, adding that Taylor “lives a very quiet life and spends a lot of his time with Cruz and close friends that are on a similar path.”
According to the source, Taylor is “the healthiest he’s ever been.”
“Everyone around him has really seen the transformation,” the insider notes. “Him and Britt have been coparenting well recently.”
Taylor has had his fair share of ups and downs over the years. The Vanderpump Rules alum made his return to reality TV in 2024 on the inaugural season of The Valley. On the series, fans got an inside look at Taylor and Cartwright’s rocky relationship ahead of their 2024 separation.
In August 2024, Cartwright filed for divorce. That same month, Taylor completed a 30-day mental health treatment program. Taylor later revealed he struggled with a cocaine addiction for years.
“I have substance issues — primarily with cocaine. It’s hard to say out loud,” he said during a March 2025 episode of Alex Baskin‘s “Hot Mic” podcast. “I’ve been dealing with this on and off since I was 23 and now I’m 45. There was times where I would stop doing it but then there were times where I’d go heavy on it.”
Later that year, Taylor revealed that he would not be returning to The Valley for season 3.
“After an incredibly challenging year and many honest conversations with my team and producers, I’ll be stepping away from the next season of The Valley,” he said in a statement to Us. “Right now, my focus needs to be on my sobriety, my mental health, and coparenting. Taking this time is necessary for me to become the best version of myself — especially for our son, Cruz.”
Following his announcement, Taylor clarified that his exit from the Bravo series was meant to be more like a “pause.”
“Myself, my team [and] the producers got together [and] we decided to take a break from season 3. This is not goodbye. This is kind of just a pause on things,” he explained during a July 2025 episode of his “In the Mind of Jax Taylor” podcast. “The more I talked about it with everybody, it just didn’t seem to make a lot of sense [to] me.”
