- âIâm not happy about the situation, me reacting gave him the time of day and it also gave the situation notoriety. Thatâs what I regret,â the former NFL star said on the Wednesday, Nov. 6 episode of the brothersâ New Heights podcast
- âYou donât choose hate, thatâs just not who you are,â Travis told his brother
Jason Kelce is speaking out about the moment he smashed a Penn State football fanâs phone for calling his brother, Travis Kelce, a homophobic slur.
In now-viral footage shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Nov. 2, the retired Philadelphia Eagles star, 37 â who was outside of Beaver Stadium in State College, Pa., for the Penn State-Ohio State game â reacted after the man called Travis âa fââ dating Taylor Swift.â
On the latest episode of the brothersâ New Heights podcast which aired on Wednesday, Nov. 6, Jason expressed regret at also saying the word after he was seen standing in front of the man and saying, âWhoâs the fââ now?â in the viral clips.
Travis began on the podcast, âI know you wanted to clear some of the air, so go ahead,â as Jason responded, âIâm just gonna address it, I feel like it needs one more time and then hopefully we can stop talking about this really stupid situation.â
The father of three â who first addressed the incident on Nov. 4 on ESPNâs Monday Night Countdown â added, âIâm not happy about the situation, me reacting gave him the time of day and it also gave the situation notoriety. Thatâs what I regret. It didnât deserve attention, itâs really stupid⊠if I just keep walking, itâs a fââ nothingburger, nobody sees it. Now, itâs out there and it just perpetuates more hate.â
Jason insisted the âthing that I regret the most is saying that word to be honest with you⊠the word he used itâs just fââ ridiculous and it takes it to another level. Itâs just off the wall, fââ over the line.âÂ
âItâs dehumanizing and it got under my skin, it elicited a reaction. In the heat of the moment, I thought âHey, what can I say back to him? Iâm going to throw this sâ right back in his face. Fâ him,â â the athlete said, admitting he knows now that he âshouldnât have done that.â
âWhat I do regret, is now thereâs a video that is very hateful, that is now online that has been seen by millions of people and I share fault in perpetuating it and having that out there,â Jason told listeners.

Travis had nothing but praise for his brother, insisting people âpassing around the videosâ made for a âbigger situation than I think what it really is.â
âThe real situation is you had some fââ clown come up to you and talk about your family and you reacted in a way that was defending your family, and you mightâve used some words that you regret using,â the Kansas City Chiefs tight end continued. âThatâs a situation youâve just got to learn from and own. I think you owning it and you speaking about it shows how sincere you are to a lot of people in this world.â
âYou donât choose hate, thatâs just not who you are,â Travis added. âI love you brother, I think you said that perfectly.â
Following Saturdayâs incident involving the unidentified college football fan, PEOPLE confirmed Penn State University Police had launched an investigation.
PEOPLE reached out to representatives for both Jason and ESPN at the time, but didnât immediately receive a response.
