Jane Fonda opened up about her close friendship with the late Robert Redford at the Oscars after party on Sunday night, and revealed that she was disappointed with his tribute at the awards show, which was led by Barbra Streisand.

“I want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford?” the veteran actress joked to Entertainment Tonight, before adding that Barbra “only made one movie” with him while she made four.

Barbra famously starred alongside Robert in the 1973 flick The Way We Were, while Jane and Robert co-starred in 1960’s The Tall Story, 1966’s The Chase, 1967’s Barefoot in the Park and 2017’s Our Souls At Night.

Jane added that she was “always in love with him” and that Robert was “the most gorgeous human being and such great values. And he did a lot for movies, he really changed movies, lifted up independent movies.”

The late star, who passed away on September 16 aged 89, was honored with a moving tribute from Barbra on Sunday night, followed by a performance of her track “The Way We Were”.

“He was a brilliant, subtle actor,” she said onstage. “And we had a wonderful time playing off each other because we never quite knew what the other one was going to do in the scene.”

“I miss him now more than ever, even how he loved teasing me,” she continued. “He’d call me, ‘Babs.’ And I’d say, ‘Bob, you know, do I look like a Babs?’ But the way he said it made me laugh.”

“Many years later, we were chatting on the phone about the usual, politics, art, Modigliani – our favorite,” she added. “And as we were hanging up, he said, ‘Babs, I love you dearly, and I always will’…He was thoughtful and bold. I called him an intellectual cowboy who blazed his own trail.”

Jane shared an emotional message to her late friend after his passing, writing: “It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone. I can’t stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for.”

“We’ve done many films over the years, so it just worked out that way, that there was not a lot of discussion, we didn’t have to talk about a lot. Things just kind of fell into place between us, and there wasn’t much more to think about.”

“As long as I’ve known Jane, she’s always moving forward and doesn’t look back,” he said. “And whatever pain, whatever problems she’s had in the past, remains in the past, and she keeps moving forward. It’s an admirable quality, and very few people have it like Jane does.”
