James Middleton has one tried and tested way to settle arguments in his marriage, it has been revealed. The Princess of Wales’ brother, who tied the knot with his wife, French financial analyst Alizée Thévenet, in 2021, revealed the one practice the couple has kept up since the early days of their relationship and how it “sets everything straight” if they have a disagreement.

“One of my first dates with my wife, Alizée, was a countryside run with the dogs,” James, 38, told Country Life in a recent interview.

He continued: “As a surprise, I bought her a pair of Inov8 running shoes – a favourite brand of mine from the Lake District. Ever since, we’ve continued the tradition, running together at least once a week in matching trainers.”

“It’s our shared ritual, a way to reconnect and, if we’ve had an argument, a run together usually sets everything straight by the time we get back home,” he explained. The British entrepreneur, who is a known dog lover, currently lives in Berkshire with his wife, their two-year-old son Inigo, and their six pups.

Alizee and James have been married since 2021

James first met Alizée in 2018 at a private member’s club in London. “If that moment hadn’t been seized, I wouldn’t have met my wife, I wouldn’t have my beautiful son,” James told HELLO! about his chance first meeting with his future wife in an exclusive interview in December 2025.

The pair tied the knot three years later in September 2021 in Bormes-les-Mimosas, France, in front of their friends and family, including the likes of his sisters Kate and Pippa Middleton, Kate’s husband, Prince William, and the Prince and Princess of Wales’ three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. James and Alizée’s official wedding photos were shared in a world exclusive with HELLO!.

“We couldn’t be happier,” James told HELLO! at the time, having previously postponed the wedding twice amid the COVID-19 pandemic. “It was wonderful to finally celebrate with family and friends despite the challenges of a global pandemic but we were relaxed and knew the day would eventually come.”

In September 2023, two years after their stunning French wedding, James and Alizée welcomed their son, Inigo Gabriel Middleton.

James opened up to HELLO! about parenting in December 2025, revealing his son is being raised to speak both English and French. “Alizée only speaks to him in French and I only speak to him in English, so he’s in that sort of Duolingo aspect of [being] slightly slower in speaking, but sentences will be half-French, half-English. It’s wonderful to watch,” he shared.
