James Gunn is giving comic book fans a first look at Milly Alcock on the set of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
On Monday, March 31, DC Studios co-CEO and filmmaker Gunn, 58, shared a photo of Alcock, 24, posing with a Supergirl comic book to Instagram. While the photo does not appear to depict a moment in the forthcoming movie, which is currently filming, it provides fans with a first look at Alcock as she begins to portray Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Superman’s cousin Supergirl.
“Today we celebrate #Supergirl and all her various incarnations,” Gunn wrote in a caption to his post. “Can’t wait for you to see the latest version, portrayed by the indomitable @millyalcock, in June 2026.”
Alcock first broke out when she costarred in the first season of HBO’s Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon. Gunn and DC announced that she would portray Supergirl in Gunn’s soon-to-launch new DC universe in January 2024, and the character is expected to appear in July’s Superman release before she stars in her own movie.
“So excited to be a part of the DC fam – thank you so much to @jamesgunn for trusting me with Kara / Supergirl ,” Alcock wrote on Instagram at that time.

Supergirl‘s cast also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll and David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham as Supergirl’s parents. Super-powered dog Krypto will also appear in the flick. Jason Momoa, who previously played Aquaman in the DC extended universe, returns to the screen as anti-hero Lobo in Woman of Tomorrow.
Gunn confirmed that he had started filming Supergirl in a post he shared on X on Jan. 23, where he wrote that filmmaker Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) “brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique #Supergirl envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely & Ana Nogueira.”
Woman of Tomorrow will follow Superman (due in theaters July 11, 2025), which stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
The character Supergirl, first created in DC Comics by Otto Binder and Al Plastino in 1959, made it to the big screen in 1984 starring Helen Slater in the title role. Sasha Calle played the role in 2023’s Ezra Miller-led The Flash.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will hit theaters June 26, 2026.
