JAG actress Catherine Bell proved that she’d barely aged a day since gracing our screens in the hit legal drama, while reuniting with her former co-stars for a special day out. The 57-year-old was joined by her The Good Witch castmates, James Denton and Bailee Madison, at Megacon in Orlando, Florida, where she connected with fans and reminisced about the show, which ended in 2021.
The star previously spoke about the possibility of reprising her role in the series at the 2024 Christmas Con, and admitted that she missed every aspect of the show.
“I miss the character. I miss the magic. I think we all were a bit surprised when it ended because we didn’t get the ending we would’ve wanted…We have not given up trying to get a movie made,” she explained at the event.
Catherine, who portrayed Lieutenant Colonel Sarah MacKenzie in JAG from 1997 to 2005, opposite her co-star David James Elliott, also acted in Army Wives from 2007 to 2013.
She reprised her role as Lt. MacKenzie in several episodes of NCIS: Los Angeles in 2019, as the original NCIS show was introduced on JAG via a backdoor pilot in 2003. David, who portrayed Lieutenant Harmon Rabb Jr., spoke to Entertainment Weekly about his desire to return to the show after it came to an end in 2005.
“I mean, there’s always a chance,” he said. “[Creator] Don Bellisario is still alive. I mean, it’s his 90th birthday coming up. Certainly, I think it would be interesting. I would be down for it, but I don’t know if it involves me. You know, those reboots, they go, ‘Yeah, thank you. We got new guys!'”
Catherine’s path to stardom was unexpected, as she originally portrayed Harmon’s late love interest, Diane Schonke, in season one of the show before being recast in the lead role in the second season.
“I had a couple of scenes [in season one]. I was in one scene where, really, the only thing was the flashback of me, and Harm happened to be in love with this girl. She was coming, I guess, to see him, or he went to see her as the ship comes in, and instead, I’m dead. I’m in a body bag,” she recalled to Screen Rant.
“I actually wrote Don Bellisario a letter, and I said, ‘Wouldn’t it be interesting if Harm’s new partner looked just like the love of his life?'”
“The night before I found out I got that role, I was crying at my dining table, looking at the stack of bills with my husband,” she continued.
“I was like, ‘I can’t do this anymore. Borrowing money from my mom to pay the rent, you know, struggling actor life.’ And he’s like, ‘No, you’re so close. We almost got this.’ He was so supportive. And literally, the next morning, I got the call.”
As well as her acting pursuits, Catherine runs her own jewelry line and is a mom to two kids with her ex-husband, Adam Beason.
