PEOPLE and e.l.f celebrated Billie Jean King’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a big way.
After unveiling her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday, April 7 — making her the first woman in sports entertainment to receive one — King, 81, celebrated the honor with an exclusive, star-studded party at the Aster Hotel.
Celeb attendees included Flavor Flav (who snacked on grapes straight from the vine as he walked through the party), Jamie Lee Curtis, rocking a bright blue Dodgers jersey (King is a partial owner of the team), Maria Sharapova and Jenna Johnson, among others.
Thanks to e.l.f., a sponsor of the international tennis competition the Billie Jean King Cup, guests had fun in various stations around the event — included a PEOPLE-inspired photo booth — and snacked on selection of bites and drinks such as sliders and macarons.
PEOPLE president Leah Wyar hosted an engaging and thought-provoking conversation with King during the afternoon celebration, during which the legendary tennis icon spoke about the power sports has in the entertainment world and paid homage to the women who came before her and have succeeded since.
“I don’t think the women tennis players could have done what we did back in the ’70s unless we had history to draw on before us … and [to] dream about letting the future generations live our dream,” she said. “It was very tense times. It was not fun times, but it was really amazing to produce something that now is huge in women’s tennis.”
King also shared what getting her star on the Walk of Fame meant to her, telling guests about when, as a child, she would come to Hollywood with her mother and see the famed tourist attraction — and how impactful it was to be featured on it now.
“We used to come up here and I used to look at the stars on the walk. I never thought, ‘Oh, I’m gonna have one of those.’ I mean, it didn’t even dawn on me,” King told Wyar.

Party attendees were also treated to King spilling her skincare secrets; when Wyar complimented her on her complexion, she said that at 81, she said she still uses e.l.f Skin Holy Hydration! Face Cream every morning.
And perhaps the most memorable moment of the party was when King looked at Flavor Flav in the crowd and said, “Hi, Flavy baby.” The rapper jumped into the front of the audience and shared a memorable moment with King as the audience burst into laughter and applause.
King left guests with the parting wisdom to be the master of their own destiny.
“Don’t let others define you, you define yourself, because if I let others define me back in the ’50s, can you imagine?” she said. “Particularly girls — because we’re told not to ask for what we want and need at all. I think it’s really important to define yourself.”
