Inside Charlie Puth’s celeb-filled dating history before marrying wife Brooke Sansone

Charlie confirmed in 2018 that he and Selena Gomez had a “very short-lived, very small, but very impactful” relationship in 2016. He even revealed that she was the inspiration behind their collaboration, “We Don’t Talk Anymore.”

“I don’t kiss and tell, but the only way a song like that can come across as real is if there’s something else going on behind the scenes,” he said when discussing the song with Billboard. 

“And that’s what was happening [with Selena]. Very short-lived, very small, but very impactful. And it really messed me up…And she evoked such good emotion on that song; it was a pleasure working with her. That’s why I’m always happy to sing it, even though it came from a dark point in my life,” he added.

Charlie also hinted that their romance fizzled because of another man in Selena’s life (she was in an on-and-off relationship with Justin Bieber from 2010 to 2018. “I’m trying to put this the best way possible: It wasn’t like I was the only person on her mind,” he stated.

Charlie was linked to Bella Thorne in December 2016 after they were spotted holding hands while strolling on a beach in Miami, hours before she accompanied him to the Jingle Ball, where he reportedly “serenaded” her during his performance.

However, their relationship was short-lived as Charlie accused Bella of cheating on her ex-boyfriend, Tyler Posey, with him after an old article about them. “I don’t know Tyler personally, but I know he shouldn’t be treated this way,” he wrote in a since-deleted tweet.

Bella cleared up the confusion, responding: “Ty and I have been broken up for like over two weeks and charlie and I ARENT DATING we are friends. That article was written forever ago.”

Discussing the situation on SiriusXM in 2017, she added: “Charlie saw an old news article, and he didn’t look at the date, and the date is old, and it’s about me and Ty. I felt super bad.”

While never confirmed by either Charlie or The Originals actress, the singer was linked to Danielle Campbell in October 2017 when he shared a screenshot of himself FaceTiming her before quickly deleting it.

That same month, he confirmed that he was “in a relationship” while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but said he was “done with dating people in the public.”

Charlie and actress Halston Sage sparked dating rumors in September 2018 when they began sharing photos of each other on social media.

The “Attention” singer first posted a sweet snap of the Prodigal Son actress sitting on his lap after they attended the Yellow Ball for New York Fashion Week. Shortly after, Halston shared a playful photo of them in a pool, which showed her arms around him while she smiled against his cheek.

They were pictured at several other events together over the next few weeks, before their romance came to an end, and photos of each other have since been removed from their respective Instagram accounts.

In February 2019, Charlie was linked to fellow singer-songwriter Charlotte Lawrence. The duo sparked dating rumors after they were spotted together multiple times during New York Fashion Week.

Charlie confirmed their relationship on Valentine’s Day by sharing a since-deleted photo of himself with his arm around Charlotte, which he captioned, “Happy valentine’s day.” Charlotte responded with a heart emoji in the comments.

By September 2019, the couple had parted ways, with Charlie writing on Twitter (now X):  “Only because I want people to stop asking the question….Yes I am single now…and please don’t believe everything you read…thank you.”

Charlie’s string of failed relationships came to an end in 2022 when he reconnected with his now-wife, Brooke Sansone.

Confirming he was once again off the market that October, while keeping Brooke’s identity a secret, he told Howard Stern: “[She’s] someone that I grew up with. She’s always been very, very nice to me, and I would assume that when times inevitably are hard in the future, because what is life without valleys and peaks, she would be there for me as well.”

He and Brooke went Instagram official in December 2022, and the following September, he popped the question. “I flew to New York to ask my best friend to marry me, and she said yes. I am the happiest, best version of myself and it is all because of you Brookie. I love you endlessly forever and ever and ever,” he captioned photos of their engagement.

They married at Charlie’s home in Montecito, California, in September 2024. Sharing a video of their wedding day on Instagram, Charlie gushed: “Today I stand before you Brooke, And I can’t help but realize Today is truly the happiest I’ve been In my 32 years of life. Some things I could not predict But one thing has always been clear. Yes somehow I seemed to have always known I’d be standing with you up here.”

Sharing another tribute to his bride on their wedding day, he captioned several other photos: “I love you Brooke…I always have, with you I am my very best. I promise I’ll love you everyday in this life, and even more when we move on to our next. Brooke Ashley Sansone, And now you’ll be Brooke Ashley Puth. Thank you for making me the happiest man alive
It has always been you.”

In October 2025, Charlie used the music video for his song “Changes” to announce that he and Brooke are expecting their first child in the spring of 2026.
