Brad Arnold, the founder of 3 Doors Down, has died at the age of 47. Brad passed away on February 7, âin his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer,â his bandmates shared in a heartbreaking statement.
âWith heavy hearts, we share the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7th, at the age of 47. With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer,â the statement read.
Brad left behind his wife, Jennifer Sanderford, who he married in 2009. As fans of the band and his family mourn the singer, HELLO! remembers Brad by looking into his personal life.
The 3 Doors Down singer was born on September 27, 1978 in Escatawpa, Mississippi. When he was a high school student in the bayou state, Brad wrote his bandâs breakout song, âKryptonite.â
The band was founded that same year with Bradâs classmates â MattRoberts and ToddHarrell. On a trip to Foley, Alabama, the trio saw a sign that read âDoors Down,â and simply added âthreeâ as they formed the band.
In 2000, 3 Doors Down released their first album, The Better Life. It went on to become the 11th best selling album of the year, with four million copies sold, and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song for âKryptonite.â
After the huge success of 3 Doors Downâs first album, Brad married his high school sweetheart, TerikaRoberts in 2001. But, because of the success of their debut album, Brad spent a lot of time away on tour away from his new wife.
Many of the bandâs songs revolved around Bradâs feelings of loneliness and distance from his relationship. So, after six years of marriage he and Terika divorced.
Two years after he divorced Terika, Brad married his second wife Jennifer who is a star in her own right. She is a professional barrel racer â which is a rodeo event in which a rider and their horse maneuver around barrels.
They were married until Bradâs death in 2026. The two didnât have children, instead focusing on their relationship.
Almost a year ago, Brad was diagnosed with Stage IV clear cell renal cell carcinoma â which is a type of kidney cancer. It metastasized to his lungs. In 3 Doors Downâs statement announcing Bradâs death, they remembered him as a âdevoted husband to Jenniferâ and a shining light whose âkindness, humor and generosity touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.â
