I Tried Out Fuller Lips with Rhode’s New Liner to See If My Husband Would Notice — Here’s What Happened

The other day, I randomly turned to my husband and asked, “Should I get lip filler?”

As someone who historically insists that I am perfect the way I am (how annoying?), I wasn’t entirely surprised when his response was a definitive, “No.” I didn’t push the subject, partly because the idea of needles near my face very much freaks me out anyway, and partly because I knew that Rhode would soon be launching Peptide Lip Shape.

Coming from the queen of juicy, full lips herself, I had a feeling that Hailey Bieber’s latest product would help me achieve the lip volume I was after without any of the pain, risk or cost of fillers. I had seen plenty of TikToks from the Rhode founder teasing the new launch, and from what I could tell, it appeared to be my ideal lip product: creamy, blendable and able to be applied effortlessly, even without a mirror.

Once I got my hands on the product, I was pleased to find that the formula is as good as it appeared. The packaging is double sided, featuring pigment on one side and a flat silicone blender on the other, but I found myself blending with my finger instead. Because it’s retractable and can’t be sharpened, the bullet gets quickly rounded, but this aids in the effortless, I-just-woke-up-like-this vibe of Rhode in general. I opted for a few neutral shades that suit my skin tone and set out on a mission to trick my husband.

Well, not trick, exactly. I simply wanted to gauge his reaction if I over-lined my lips rather than following my lip line as I usually do. Would he notice? Would he care? Would he suddenly have very strong opinions about makeup?

One morning, I did my normal makeup routine, the only difference being slightly over-lining my lips using Rhode Peptide Lip Shape in shades Lunge and Stretch, adding a gloss on top. When I asked if he noticed anything special about my makeup, he looked suddenly panicked before answering, “Umm, your lips look wet?”

I quickly folded and told him about the experiment, after which he agreed that my lips did indeed look fuller.

However, my experiment wasn’t over yet. I decided to text the above photo to my sister and two of my best friends and ask if they noticed anything. To perhaps no one’s surprise, all three of them immediately said my lips.
