Nearly 15 years after the release of How to Train Your Dragonâwhich featured voice acting from Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiigâthe beloved animated tale is headed back to the big-screen as a reimagined live-action epic.
In the first teaser trailer released Nov. 19, Viking chief Stoick the Vastâportrayed by Butler, who reprises his role from the computer-animated franchiseâurged his tepid son, Hiccup, to follow in his mighty footsteps.
âWhen you carry this axe, you carry all of us with you,â he told the boy, who nervously responded, âDad, I canât kill dragons.â
When the young misfit, played by Mason Thames, stumbled upon an injured dragon and struggled to kill the winged creature, the two instead formed an unlikely friendship.
âItâs OK,â he reassured the beast, âI wonât hurt you.â
The original 2010 animated film, based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, spawned a media franchise including two theatrical sequels, three television series and several televised short films.Â
