As one of the most famous mothers in the world, the Princess of Wales has perfected her private routine, away from the glare of the cameras, as she guides her three young royal children through life.
The 44-year-old princess shares Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and Prince Louis, seven, with her husband, Prince William, 43.
While the royal has previously spoken about her journey with motherhood via charity campaigns or mental health awareness outings, she is fiercely private when it comes to sharing intimate details about the family’s life inside Forest Lodge on the Windsor estate.
Trying to keep life as normal as possible for their three children, the Prince and Princess of Wales put a massive emphasis on spending time outdoors, such as skiing, and enrolling them in schools away from the glare of the spotlight.
A ‘normal’ mum routine
It is widely known that Kate and her husband try to do the school run when they can, dropping them off and collecting them from their school Lambrook in Berkshire.
She takes a “hands-on” approach to parenting despite her royal status and has been spotted attending sports days and other school functions in support of her little ones. In rare photos or videos Kate and William share of their home life, their children are seen playing outdoors or engaging in other activities with their parents, such as baking.
For someone in the public eye, particularly a parent like the Princess of Wales, keeping everyday routines private can be incredibly valuable for children’s development.
While the Waleses have plenty of staff on hand, it is also said that Kate likes to do most of the care for the children herself, managing bedtimes and teaching them about household chores.
Kate is also very keen to encourage her children to try new things. She previously told students at Nottingham Trent University: “I remember university for me was one of those great opportunities to try out new hobbies, and that has carried through now. I loved trying out new things, and challenging myself, whether [in] sports, music, or art.
“It’s one of the things with my kids too, just trying out new things, and university for me was when I learned to try out because there is so much on offer.”
Why are private routines so important?
When there is so much public attention surrounding an individual or a family, the tiny details of a routine can become vital in maintaining some kind of regular reality, especially when there are children involved.
HCPC-registered Senior Education and Child Psychologist Dr Sasha Hall, who has over 15 years of experience, explained why Kate may be so protective of her personal mum routine.
It also allows those interactions to remain genuine rather than something performed for the public.
She told HELLO!: “For someone in the public eye, particularly a parent like the Princess of Wales, keeping everyday routines private can be incredibly valuable for children’s development.
“Moments like the school run are small but important opportunities for connection, where a parent can be fully present and focused on their child without distraction. That kind of undivided attention helps children feel seen, valued and emotionally secure.”
The expert continued: “It also allows those interactions to remain genuine rather than something performed for the public. For children whose lives are already far from ordinary, protecting these simple family routines can create a sense of normality and stability, helping them grow up in as balanced and grounded a way as possible.”
