James Haven revealed he got a supportive phone call from his father, Jon Voight, after coming out as gay.
Haven, 53, explained on Wednesdayâs episode of the âAll Out with Jon Deanâ podcast that the pair had a âmind-blowingâ and âsurrealâ conversation.
âI finally pick up the phone after 15 minutes of him trying to call me, and Iâm just like, âHey,ââ Haven recalled. âAnd heâs like, âSoâŠâ Iâm like, âAh, here we go.â
âHe goes, âI finally know who you areâ ⊠and all of a sudden we had this really nice chat and I was like, âOh my gosh.ââ
Haven said he âimmediatelyâ called his ex-wife, Romi Imbelli, who also appeared on the podcast, and told her he âdid not expect that phone callâ with Voight, 87.
Imbelli, 44, chimed in that the exes â who annulled their marriage seven months after their Aug. 2024 wedding  â were âwaiting for [Voightâs] responseâ to Haven coming out.
âThis has been decades. Itâs caused a lot of pain to both of us,â the âReal L Wordâ star said. âSo Iâm like, âWhat is dad going to say?â And then when he does that.â
Haven, whose sister is Angelina Jolie, explained that was most âpowerfulâ part of Voightâs response was how âaffirmingâ he sounded on the phone call about his sonâs sexuality.
âI couldnât believe what I was hearing,â the âGiaâ star said. âHe kept talking about it, like, âNow I understand why youâve been so private.ââ
Haven also said Voight told him that he could finally âunderstandâ Havenâs âentire behavior.â
Later in the podcast, Haven opened up about the dark days of the father-son duoâs relationship, confirming they âdidnât talk for six yearsâ because he felt âa lack of valueâ from the Oscar winner.
âMy upbringing was very difficult, and weâve come a long way,â Haven shared. âThe biggest issue I dealt with in my relationship with him for the longest time was a value issue.â
However, Haven said they recently made up over an hour-long dinner where Voight owned his mistakes.
Page Six has reached out to Voightâs rep for comment.
Haven came out as gay during a live video stream last Thursday.
The âOriginal Sinâ actor told fans that coming out of the closet âisnât about becoming someone new,â but rather âallowing everyone else to meet the person who has been here all along.â
He also expressed hope that his âfamily and others can choose love over fear, understanding over judgment, and connection over the beliefs that may have kept us apart.â
âI hope they can look beyond the labels and simply see me with the same heart, the same laugh, the same soul theyâve always known,â Haven added.
Imbelli said on the live stream Haven will always be âher life partnerâ despite him coming out.
Page Six also broke the news that Haven is launching a weekly podcast, titled âSafe Haven with James Haven,â where he will âguide guests through the moments, choices, and turning points that shaped who they became.â
