Vibes are high on set when Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are around.
The actors, who star as couple Jacob and Cara Dutton in the Yellowstone prequel series 1923, tell PEOPLE that they always had a âgood timeâ â and reveal what their dynamic is like when the cameras arenât rolling. âWe would sit around together and shoot the sâ off-set,â Mirren, 79. says.
âHarrison is not like an, âIâm going to my trailerâ person. I donât think I ever knew him [or] remember him going ever to his trailer,â she says. âWe hang around on the set and we do our thing.â
âWe had a good time,â Ford, 82, agrees. âA good time hanging out together as well as working together.â
Calling her costar âsuch a bloke,â Mirren describes the aura that Ford seems to have around him â and how it attracts everyone else on set with them.
âHeâs what in England we call a bloke. He is a guy, and because heâs a bloke, all the other blokes absolutely love him, and quite rightfully,â she says. âAnd heâs always so lovely to all the other actors.â
She continues, âThe other guys just gather around Harrison because they just want to be in his company, I think. And I tag along.â
As for Fordâs take, he says, âIf Iâm a bloke, sheâs what we used to call a broad â and thereâs no disparagement in calling a Dame a broad.â
âIt means that sheâs a woman that has the bandwidth to hang with men â not just to be a lady with them, but to actually hang with them,â he says of Mirren. âSheâs a real cool lady.â
In season 2 of 1923, Ford and Mirrenâs characters face challenge after challenge as they fight to defend their Montana ranch from a deadly winter and encroaching businessmen while they await the return of their nephew Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) from abroad.
Still, the heart of the story, in Mirren and Fordâs eyes, is the relationship between their characters.
âThese two are partners as much as lovers, and [theyâre] depending on each other for things that they are not part of their quiver of arrows,â Ford says. âAnd itâs an extraordinary relationship that Taylor [Sheridan] has written for us to inhabit.â
Mirren agrees. âItâs rare to see. In movies, people get married or they meet-cute and they fall in love and they have hot sex or whatever, and then itâs all over, happily ever after. Well, this is the ever after. Now weâre seeing what happens at the end of that story, and you very rarely see that onscreen.â
