Hart to Hart co-stars Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers reunited on Wednesday to celebrate the actor’s 96th birthday, with Robert sharing a snap from the special moment.
The pair, who starred in the hit show from 1979 to 1984, wrapped their arms around each other as they smiled for the camera, with Robert dressed in a blue zip-up sweater and Stefanie in a white collared shirt with black polka dots.
“When Jonathan and Jennifer reunite, it’s always something special. Thank you, Stefanie, for the beautiful birthday visit,” he wrote in the caption, as fans rushed to the comment section to share the love.
“For all the joy you have brought to us as Jonathan and Jennifer Hart, we thank you! Awesome picture!” wrote one fan, while another added: “Timeless elegance and eternal friendship! Thank you for all the joy you bring us!”
“You know it’s special when two people can come back together after many years, and they still have that same ‘zing’. Great show, Great stars,” said a third, while another chimed in: “Love this! You both look wonderful.”
Stefanie shared her birthday wishes on Facebook, writing: “Celebrating another birthday for RJ, may there be many more.”
Robert and Stefanie starred as self-made millionaire Jonathan Hart and freelance writer Jennifer Hart, a childless and wealthy couple who solved crimes on the side. The show ran for five seasons and was followed by eight successful TV movies, the last of which was released in 1996.
“There are so many wonderful memories,” Stefanie told Fox News of their time on the show. “I saw [Robert] two days ago. And every time we see each other, we talk about, ‘Do you remember when?’ It crops up all these little memories…Hart to Hart was a gift because it played on both of our sensibilities.”
The friends developed a close bond on the show, which deepened after they both lost their spouses while filming the series. Stefanie’s husband, Sabrina star William Holden, died after a fall in his home in November 1981. Just two weeks later, Robert’s movie star wife, Natalie Wood, drowned during a boat trip off the coast of California.
“We leaned on each other for support,” Stefanie told the outlet. “And we also understood that we had committed to doing a television series. It had to go on. The show had to go on, and no one would’ve understood that more than the partners we both lost.”
“It was a very difficult time,” she continued. “We were held up by a lot of wonderful people and friends, some mutual friends and some on each side of the coin. And [Robert] had daughters. He also had children to keep supporting…emotionally. So it was a complicated and difficult time.”
Stefanie went on to marry French aristocrat Patrick Houitte de La Chesnais in 1993, yet the couple divorced six years later. She was then in a relationship with auditor Tom Carroll from 2000 until his death in 2014. Nine years after Natalie’s death, Robert married his longtime friend, Jill St. John, and they are still loved-up decades later.
