Despite a filming schedule that spans the globe, it is Robson Green’s private life off-screen that continues to garner interest from fans.

The Grantchester star, 61, hit the headlines for his relationship with Zoila Brozas, with whom he lives in a rural riverside property in Northumberland. It was believed that he previously lived in Surrey before moving into his 250-year-old ferryman cottage in Watersmeet in 2012 following his split from his second wife, Vanya Seager.

However, unearthed comments have clarified his living situation. “I never moved away from it. People always say I moved down south. I had a place in Surrey… but that’s not the case.

“I still commute down south for work and spend about 30 per cent of my time down here. It’s always been the same. But most of my work now is abroad – for my fishing series and series like Strike Back, which filmed in Budapest and Thailand,” he told Life of Wylie in 2015.

The confusion about him leaving behind his Northumberland life may have stemmed from his previous comments to The Standard in 2012: “In Surrey, we’re surrounded by countryside and wildlife. And I love my garden. My father was never more at peace than when he was in his garden. I’ve inherited his green fingers.”

He also previously said in an interview with Living North that he struggled with city life. Robson explained he was “very uncomfortable with crowds and concrete jungles. I tried to survive in London, but I just couldn’t.”

Robson’s fondness for Northumberland was not shared by his ex, Vanya, with whom he shares a son called Taylor.

“She never warmed to the North East, that’s the truth. She is this kind of oriental flower. She came up here, and her hair would straighten in the Northern damp. But that’s not the reason we grew apart. Nothing to do with the hair.”

The father-of-one’s home is located in a picturesque spot on the River Tyne, where he soaks up views of the countryside from his 270-degree window conservatory. However, Robson was left “devastated” after the property was flooded in 2015, and he was forced to temporarily move out for 18 months while the damage was repaired.

“In 2015, my house was under seven feet of water, destroyed in a flood. Everything precious and personal in my life just washed away. It was very painful, I was devastated. Not only were there salmon going down the Tyne that day, my three-piece suite was, too,” he told Radio Times.

The Wire in the Blood actor was married twice – first to Alison Ogilvie for eight years, then to Vanya for 12 years – before he met Ziola at the gym in 2016.

Zoila was reportedly married to Reverend Geoffrey Short at the time, and her ex-husband opened up about the “shock” he felt after she abruptly ended their relationship. “We had a great life together. People thought she was the ideal vicar’s wife, and she was. She loves the boys and everyone said what a fantastic mother she was,” he explained to The Mirror.

“Then I got home from work one day and all of a sudden everything changed. She announced she was leaving to live with Robson,” he added, stating the “very painful” split made him question his faith.
