Goldie Hawn made a special low-key trip to New York City in September for a cause very close to her heart.
The award-winning actress looked radiant during a recent visit to elementary school, PS133Q, in Queens, as part of her work for her charity, MindUp.
A photo of the 80-year-old actress posing with students was shared on MindUp’s Instagram account, alongside the caption: “A very special morning at @p.s.133q in Queens!
“We had the joy of seeing MindUP in action and spending time with the incredible students, educators and school leaders bringing the program to life every day.
“Thank you to the entire P.S. 133 community for the beautiful welcome, and for your commitment to helping children find greater peace, empathy and happiness.”
Goldie looked stylish dressed in a black jacket and matching pants, which she teamed with black sneakers. She wore her blond hair down in its iconic bouncy blowdry.
A picture of Goldie with members of staff was shared on the school’s Instagram account too, with them detailing the visit and praising the actress for being so warm.
The caption read: “TODAY WAS A GREAT DAY, as we were provided an opportunity to show @goldiehawn the immense impact that @mindup is having on our students, staff, and families, and how this is directly correlates to student engagement, student achievement, and our goal to help grow the best people possible at P.S. 133.
“She visited classrooms, spoke to students and staff, cut the ribbon on our new sensory space, while even making sure she tried our special custom cookie! @sweetkatiescookies We gifted her a thank you card from Pre-K, a gratitude jar from all classes, and well as a star to commemorate her visit! She graciously signed copies of her book for our sensory rooms, as well as our ‘Kiss Your Brain’ charter for us to lean on moving forward. Thank you, Goldie!”
Goldie founded The Goldie Hawn Foundation in 2003, and later MindUp. It works to help “equip children with the social and emotional skills they need to lead smarter, healthier, happier and ultimately more productive lives.”
Goldie began the charity after being alarmed by the increase in school violence, as well as youth depression and suicide, as well as “the persistent failure of the education system to help children cope with increasingly stressful lives”.
According to her official website, “MindUp is the signature program of The Goldie Hawn Foundation which is serving over six million children in the US, Canada, UK, Finland, Ireland, Greece, Venezuela, Uganda, Portugal, Serbia, Jordan, Hong Kong, Australia, and New Zealand.
The skills and mindfulness practices that are being taught have helped children improve learning and academic performance and learn valuable social and emotional skills that build personal resilience for a lifetime.” It’s a family affair too, with Goldie’s daughter, Kate Hudson, also serving as the Board Director.
