During Good Morning America‘s airing on February 5, TV star Michael Strahan teased his desire to take a long break away from his demanding job.

He got candid after the team aired a segment featuring a young traveler who quit his corporate job in finance to see the world on a minimal budget of five dollars per stay, and two dollars per meal.

Robin Roberts mentioned that one of the show’s producers took a year off to explore too.

George shared his desire for time off

She explained: “Denise and her husband, who put everything in storage [and] traveled the world for about a year…[they] documented it and now she’s back…”

George Stephanopoulos interjected: “Back to great jobs too,” as everyone laughed. Michael quickly inquired: “Are we allowed to do that? Come back to this job? Hey, hey, let me know.”

George remarked: “Will you do it on five dollars a day?” Michael responded: “Nah, not that amount…five dollars a day…that won’t work…I need to splurge more than that.”

He wants to take a long pause away from the show

He added: “[Boss] Simone, I need to talk to you after the show and see if that is possible.” Although Michael recently revealed wanting to take a longer pause from the job, this isn’t the first time he’s hinted at stepping away.

The former New York Giants player got candid about needing more time for himself, given his overwhelming schedule with back-to-back jobs. Not only does he co-host GMA regularly, but he also serves as an occasional anchor for Fox Sports’ NFL Desk.

The TV host shared his thoughts on retirement

During the New Heights podcast, he revealed that he’s got his eyes on “retirement” next, but he only specified the journey in regard to his career with Fox, not GMA

He expressed: “I love Fox. I absolutely love that. But you work so much, I want to go here, I want to go there, and I can’t do a lot of things because I’ve got these commitments and schedules and stuff. I think at this point, I have to look at time lived and time left.”

He doesn’t want to go completely off-air

Although he’s ready for a drastic change soon enough, he doesn’t want to completely go off-air. He continued: “I’m not just going to completely disappear. I’ll do Fox until they throw me off of Fox. I don’t want to be 80 years old on Fox, but I’ll stick around a little bit longer.”

He joined the GMA team full-time in September 2016. Michael began contributing to the show in 2014. He was previously a co-host on Live with Kelly and Michael, which he joined firstly as a guest back in 2012.
