Glen Powell’s new condiment line is sure to be a smash in your kitchen!

The Anyone But You star, 36, is making his official debut into the food scene with the launch of his first-ever brand, Smash Kitchen. While the line marks another big milestone for Powell, it’s also a way for the actor to explore his passion for food and his all-time favorite kitchen staples — sauces!

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE, Powell credits his family and all the big dinners they enjoyed together when he was growing up in Texas as a major reason why he was inspired to launch his own condiment line.

“The Powells love to eat, but we also love making our own sauces,” he tells PEOPLE. “We were always messing around and experimenting in the kitchen,” he adds, noting that his family especially loves to whip up their own hot sauce and barbecue sauce together.

In addition to the classics like ketchup, mayo, and mustard, Smash Kitchen is introducing some Powell-approved flavors like Hot Honey Ketchup and Hot Honey BBQ Sauce

The Top Gun: Maverick actor, who recently moved back home to Texas last year, notes how the flavors in the new line are “absolutely” inspired by his home state. He recalls how his grandmother “instilled this love of food in everybody” ever since he can remember — and it certainly played a part in the launch of the brand.

“We were always making our own different sauces, and I think the thing for me is that I always had this desire to create,” he continues. Of his family’s homemade creations, he adds, “We were always like, ‘We should bottle this.’ Everybody’s like, ‘This is the best thing we’ve ever had.’”

It was also his family who helped him come up with the clever name for the line.

“After dinner parties, the family always has this phrase like, ‘Damn, that was a smash,’ which just means that we killed it. We killed the dinner party,” he says.

But the Twisters actor says it doesn’t stop there, as he and his partners, Sean Kane and Sameer Mehta, explored the idea of “smashing expectations” with the new brand.

“It’s the idea of breaking down old concepts and that just because something is cheap, it doesn’t have to be made cheap. The ingredients can be high quality,” he adds.

It was especially important to Powell that Smash Kitchen products be made affordable to American families without sacrificing quality or taste.

Each product is made with clean ingredients such as local ripe organic tomatoes and cage-free organic eggs, while also avoiding artificial colors, additives and high-fructose corn syrup. They’re budget-friendly and easily accessible, as they will be sold exclusively at Walmart stores and Walmart.com at prices ranging from $1.97 to $4.97.

“I’m just so happy about it because my family loves it, my friends love it, and I really think it’s going to change people’s lives,” says Powell, whose new movie Running Man premieres later this year. “I’m very excited that we can change the way people eat without having to sacrifice taste.”

As for his go-to product in the line, Powell says he tends to “drizzle barbecue sauce on everything.” However, he notes that one of his absolute favorites would have to be the Hot Honey Ketchup as it’s made with all “real, organic jalapeños.”
