Glen Powell is revealing the useful words of encouragement he received from Arnold Schwarzengger over his starring in a remake of The Running Man.
While speaking with PEOPLE about his new condiment line Smash Kitchen, the 36-year-old actor shared how both he and director Edgar Wright recently connected with Schwarzenegger, 77, over FaceTime about the role since The Terminator actor led the original 1987 film.
“Arnold gave us his blessing,” Powell said. “[His son] Patrick Schwarzenegger is a great friend of mine and I asked Patrick if I could talk to Arnold and I hadn’t seen Arnold since we shot Expendables in Bulgaria.”

Based on Stephen King’s 1982 book of the same name, Powell’s Running Man remake will be the second screen adaptation after Schwarzenegger starred in the ’80s version. The movie focuses on a game show where convicted criminal “runners” must escape death from professional killers.
“Arnold gave us his full blessing and we get to give Arnold a very specific fun gift from the movie in a couple of weeks here. So I’m very excited to see him,” the Twisters actor said.
Powell was on hand with Wright, alongside costars Josh Brolin and Colman Domingo, to debut first footage from the new Running Man at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 3.
Powell was spotted filming some action scenes in London last November — almost 37 years to the day since the original film was released. Dressed in casual attire and sneakers, he was seen running in character as protagonist Ben Richards, potentially evading capture.
Lee Pace, Katy O’Brian, William H. Macy, Emilia Jones and Michael Cera will also star in the remake.
The original film was directed by Paul Michael Glaser and starred María Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, Jesse Ventura and more alongside Schwarzenegger.
The Running Man arrives in theaters November 7, 2025.
