George Clooney’s wife Amal’s ‘unbridal’ pre-wedding dress is her boldest to date

Amal Clooney has never been one to shy away from a sartorial statement, but in 2014, on the eve of her wedding to George Clooney, the human rights lawyer proved just how modern her fashion sense is. 

Arriving at Piazzale Roma in Venice on the eve of her wedding, Amal ditched the usual white bridal attire for a red printed gown. The satin number featured an asymmetrical leg-baring skirt, as well as a V-shaped neckline and dramatic puffed sleeves.  

Accessorised to perfection, as per usual, the lawyer paired the head-turning gown with coordinating black stilettos with a pointed toe and statement earrings. She even added a red lip for added drama.

Earlier in the day, the brunette beauty arrived in Venice wearing a black and white striped jumpsuit for a more casual look, proving the versatility of her wardrobe.

Constance Richardson, a London-based stylist specialising in colour analysis, explains of Amal’s red gown: “Amal Clooney made a striking choice in a vivid red dress. Where many would lean into softer, more traditional tones, she opted for something far less obvious, perhaps as a statement against tradition.

On 4 May 2015, the star joined Jay Kelly star George at the China: Through The Looking Glass Costume Institute Benefit Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She dazzled in a layered, frothy gown. Most recently, the actor’s powerhouse wife joined him at the 83rd annual Golden Globes Awards in January. She shone in a ruched mermaid gown by Balmain. with a sweetheart neckline. “Inspired by Greek mythology, Pierre Balmain named the design after Erato, one of the nine Muses who presided over lyric poetry,” Balmain’s official X account tweeted on 12 January.
