Gene Hackman’s Nephew Addresses “Theories” Surrounding Actor and His Wife’s Deaths

Gene Hackman’s family is not jumping to any conclusions.

After the 95-year-old and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 65, were found dead alongside one of their dogs in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, home on Feb. 26, his nephew Tim Hackman emphasized that the family is waiting for a full investigation to determine the cause of their deaths.

“We’re waiting on toxicology,” Tim, the son of Gene’s brother Richard Hackman, told Us Weekly in an interview published March 3. “That will tell us everything. It’s hard to theorize. There are lots of theories out there and I don’t want to speculate. It’s easy to speculate negative theories.”

For now, amid all the questions surrounding the death of the Oscar winner and his wife, the family is remaining optimistic. As Tim put it, “The family wants to keep it positive for now and when we know the truth we will deal with it.”
