Gayle King wasn’t afraid to step in hot water during a live interview on CBS Mornings.

On the April 4 edition of the news program, King, 70, quoted an uncensored gay slur as she retold a joke from Matteo Lane’s standup during an interview with the comedian.

“Can we talk about the standup? Can I just say one joke? I hope I don’t get in trouble,” King said to Lane, who was promoting his new cookbook Your Pasta Sucks. “You do a riff about white women who approached you, and they said something about cooking, and you said, ‘What in the f——- are you talking about?'”

Lane, who is gay, couldn’t hold back his laughter as put his hand over his mouth as the journalist commented, “I thought that was hilarious. What does that mean?”

“I love you, Gayle King,” the comedian, 38, responded. “It means exactly what you think it means. White women, they’re fine during the day, but they have one sip of a rosé and they’re like, ‘Tonight’s about me!’ They won’t stop, I’m telling you. Horrible.”

Following the live broadcast, CBS removed the slur from the later feeds of the show and the network’s social channels including the program’s YouTube page, PEOPLE has learned.

Lane also shared the censored version of his interview on Instagram.

After some social media users captured the uncensored moment, reactions poured in.

“I had to watch this at least 6 times,” one user used on X.  “like did she really say that????”

“You can say that on tv,” another added with a laughing emoji while someone else wrote, “Omg this is a wild time to be alive.

Bob the Drag Queen reposted the clip and weighed in, writing, “honestly iconic.”
