ABC News reporter Roberts isnât always one for chit-chat. âI donât like the check-in,â she explaind. âIf youâre calling just to say, âSo, whatâs up?â no, I do not like that.â Everyoneâs favorite TV weatherman, however, is a phone guy. And after years of chafing against his frequent calls, a pal proposed something that changed her stance. â
One friend said to me, âDid you ever think that maybe he just feels comfortable when he hears your voice, because that tells him that all is right in the world?'â she recounted. âAnd I thought, âThatâs very sweet. Iâd never thought about it in that way. And if it means something to him, then it should mean something to me.'â
Now, she said, âI have learned to take a breath and say, âSweetie, Iâve got some stuff going on, but whatâs going on with you? Great. Iâm glad to hear from you. Got to go. Talk to you later. Love you.â That makes all the difference in the world to him, and it doesnât kill me for two minutes to be nice and sweet.â They celebrated their 25th anniversary in September. Â
