Frankie Muniz shared a glimpse at the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle revival, posting a photo of himself alongside two of his onscreen brothers.

In a photo shared via his social media accounts on Thursday, October 23, Muniz posed alongside his costars Justin Berfield and Chris Masterson.

“I was told not to post this yet, but then I remembered the theme song,” Muniz, 39, wrote alongside the post taken on the set of Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. “I’m just too excited for y’all to see the new episodes and I miss my brothers.”

In the caption Muniz was jokingly referring to They Might Be Giants’ song “Boss of Me,” where the chorus’ lyrics read, “You’re not the boss of me now.”

Muniz played the titular character Malcolm in the original hit series, which ran from 2000 to 2006. Berfield and Masterson played Malcom’s brothers Reese and Francis respectively and all three actors are returning for the revival series due to drop on Disney+ in 2026.

Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek played the boys’ parents Hal and Louis and will also be back for the four-part revival. Erik Per Sullivan, who played Malcolm’s younger brother Dewey, chose not to return. Instead, his character will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.

News emerged in March that Disney+ gave the green light for a Malcolm in the Middle revival series. It was written by Linwood Boomer, who created the original series.

According to a press release, the new incarnation will follow Malcolm and his daughter who are “drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”

Speaking to Us Weekly on September 4, Muniz teased what to expect from the new show.

“It was kind of written as a two-hour movie,” Muniz exclusively shared with Us. “It’s one story line, basically … I wondered for so long, ‘What was Malcolm up to? What’s his family up to?’ I think [we] get some good answers.”

The actor also shared how the “surreal” experience of getting the gang back together came about.

“I think I had put a tweet out in 2015, [saying], ‘It would be so cool to see where Malcolm and his family are.’ I couldn’t believe the response and how [many people] went crazy for that,” Muniz told Us. “I called [show creator] Linwood Boomer, and he was like, ‘No, I like how it ended.’ Bryan and I talked about it, and he took the lead in making it happen. It took 10 years.”

In the past, both Cranston and Kaczmarek have separately explained why Per Sullivan is missing from the cast this time around.

“He wasn’t interested in acting at all. He goes to school at a very, very, very prestigious American university that he’s asked us all to be quiet about,” Kaczmarek said in a 2024 interview with Malcolm France, insisting he’s doing “he’s very, very well.”

Frankie Muniz felt a multitude of emotions reprising the leading role in the upcoming Malcolm in the Middle revival. “It was kind of written as a two-hour movie,” Muniz, 39, shared in Us Weekly‘s cover story about the “surreal” experience of being back on set. “It’s one story line, basically … I wondered for so […]

She added that she respected his choice and admired Per Sullivan for doing what was right for himself.

“I think so many people think being in show business is just the greatest thing in the world, and it’s not for everybody,” she said, adding, “He’s a very grateful kid, for Dewey.”

Cranston later touched on the topic during the “Fly on the Wall” podcast with Dana Carvey and David Spade.

“I talked to Erik and I said, ‘Hey, we got the show! It’s going to come back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, that’s fantastic!’ And I go, ‘Yeah, so we’re looking forward to having you back.’ He goes, ‘Oh, no, no, I don’t want to do it. But it’s fantastic,’” the Breaking Bad actor said.
