David Foster had plenty of support at the opening night of BOOP! The Musical.
The sixteen-time Grammy Award-winner has written original songs for the new Broadway comedy, which brings animator Max Fleischer’s iconic cartoon character Betty Boop to the stage. It’s the first time he’s ever composed a stage musical — a milestone worth celebrating in the hitmaker’s five-decade career.
So it’s no surprise that Foster was surrounded with family on Saturday, April 5, as BOOP! officially debuted at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City.
By his side was wife Katharine McPhee, whom he married in 2019. Also in attendance were three of the 75-year-old musician’s children — daughters Amy S. Foster, 51, Sara Foster, 43, and Erin Foster, 40 — plus his granddaughter. (Foster is also a dad to daughters Allison Jones and Jordan Foster, as well as son Rennie.)
Amy is David’s only daughter with his first wife, musician B.J. Cook. He shares Sara, Erin and Jordan with second wife Rebecca Dyer.
David, meanwhile, welcomed his eldest child, daughter Allison, when he was 20 years old. She was adopted by another family but reconnected with her famous biological father as an adult.
In total, David has six children. His youngest and only son is Rennie, whom he and McPhee, 41, welcomed in February 2021.

In March, David opened up to PEOPLE about making BOOP!, explaining that he first contacted Fleisher about building a show around the character 15 years ago.
“It’s been so long in the making,” he said. “They came along, and it was just right in the right in the right time in my life, when I was like, ‘I need a new challenge. I want to move the goalpost. This seems like the right move for me.’ “
Leading BOOP! as the title character is former Jimmy Awards finalist Jasmine Amy Rogers. The 26-year-old actress is making her Broadway debut with the role.
