“Former vegan” Lizzo revealed what she eats in a day while crediting animal protein with helping her shed pounds amid her weight loss journey.
The “Good as Hell” singer documented the foods and beverages she consumes in a day in a video posted on Instagram Thursday.
She started her day off with lemon water and egg white cups, cauliflower hashbrowns and fruit.
Later in the day, the “Truth Hurts” hitmaker, 36, enjoyed some okra water followed by a buffalo chicken lettuce wrap with “lots of mustard” and homemade peach tea.
She ended her day by munching on some grilled chicken with carrots and asparagus.
Lizzo also included a voiceover in the video, during which she explained she decided to add meat back into her diet during a trip to Japan.
“When I got to Japan, I was in awe with how clean and delicious their food was. I indulged in fresh sushi and fluffy egg and I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day,” she said.
“After tests and research, I found that animal proteins helped me have more energy, lose weight and helped with my mental fog,” she shared.
“This is the diet that’s helped me reach my goals and helped me feel good in my body.”
However, the Grammy winner said she still thinks the vegan diet “is still the healthiest diet to have” and she aspires to one day be a “raw alkaline vegan.”
A raw alkaline diet is a plant-based diet meant to create an alkaline environment in one’s body, which means having an internal pH level of eight or higher, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
The medical center warns that the alkaline diet is not proven to have actual health benefits and that the body regulates pH on its own naturally.
Lizzo acknowledged her video is about a “sensitive” subject matter, but wanted to “be honest and share [her] story in [her] own words.”
“Do what’s best for you in your life at that moment,” she encouraged fans.
She concluded, “All that matters is that you’re happy and if you’re happy, I’m happy.”
Lizzo did not reveal which trip to Japan inspired her new diet, but visited the Asian country in August 2023.
At the time, she shared a video of her travels after being hit with a harassment lawsuit from several former backup dancers. She denied the accusations.
In August, the songstress said she was “taking a gap year” to protect her peace as she shared a video showing off her weight loss.
A month later, she hit back at claims that she was on Ozempic by revealing she had spent the last five months weight training and living in a calorie deficit.
On Sept. 30, the “Juice” singer admitted she was “feeling really bad” about overeating the day prior but was trying to stay positive.
“Im trying to remind myself that my body needed that nourishment,” she added in a TikTok video.
“And if my body deserves comfort then my brain deserves comfort too.”
