Firerose is sharing candid details about her split with ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus following their acrimonious divorce.
The singer, 37, opened up about the moment she knew her marriage to Cyrus, 63, was over in an interview with Australia’s Stellar published on Saturday, October 12.
“We went to bed together, and when I woke up, he wasn’t there,” she told the outlet. “It wasn’t abnormal for him to shut me out and give me the silent treatment, but it was very unusual for him to leave for a whole day. He didn’t come home that night.”
Firerose added: “I was alone on the farm by myself, with no security lights on. I was terrified and baffled, as he wasn’t answering my calls or texts and he knew I had to be at the hospital the next day.”
In the interview, Firerose also shared details about how she and Cyrus first crossed paths when she was 22 and he was 49.
The singer told the outlet that she had been auditioning at a Hollywood studio lot when a dog approached her and she began talking to its owner – Cyrus. The pair eventually lost touch for several years before reconnecting during the Covid pandemic years and striking up a relationship.
“But I couldn’t have seen 10 years into the future,” she said as she reflected on their first meeting. “When I think about what I just went through, I would have told my 22-year-old self to run in the opposite direction and never look back.”
In June, Cyrus filed for an annulment of his marriage to Firerose, citing irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct.” The former couple’s date of separation was listed as May 22, 2024, which was seven months after they tied the knot.
The pair finalized their divorce in August, and according to documents seen by Us Weekly, Firerose received $0 in the agreement. Although Firerose was not awarded a cash settlement, Cyrus agreed to hand over any song credits or royalties that they wrote or published together throughout their relationship.
While Cyrus and Firerose are no longer on speaking terms since their separation, the Australian native insisted she wanted things to work out between them.
“All I ever tried to do was love and trust this person, which was very ignorant of me,” she told Stellar. “I really wanted to believe that he was the good version of the man I’d fallen in love with.”
