Finding Prince Charming alum Chad Spodick‘s official cause of death has been confirmed.
A spokesperson for the Boca Raton police department told Us Weekly on Tuesday, December 9, that Spodick died by suicide, adding that the case remains open. No further details were made available.
Spodick rose to fame when he appeared on Logo’s Finding Prince Charming, which was a reality series hosted by Lance Bass in 2016. The short-lived show followed 13 suitors living in a house together while looking for love with lead Robert Sepúlveda Jr. Spodick left the show during week 6 and returned to work as a pilot with several airlines in the years since his time on reality TV.
Spodick’s loved ones set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his mother earlier this month after the former reality star died at age 42. The fundraising site noted that Spodick’s mother needed help to cover funeral expenses and other unexpected bills after his “sudden and heartbreaking” death.
“Our hearts are shattered as we share the devastating news of the loss of our beautiful, kind, and generous son, brother and friend Chad,” read the post. “His passing was sudden and heartbreaking, and we are still struggling to comprehend a world without his light.”
The GoFundMe’s creator Kate Werbowski reflected on Spodick’s legacy after his sudden death.
“Chad was the type of person who poured himself into others. He lifted up his friends, encouraged everyone around him to grow, to advocate for themselves, and to believe in their own worth,” she wrote. “His love for animals was unmatched — he cared deeply for every creature, especially his four beloved dogs and his bird, Cosmo. The world was brighter with Chad in it, and those who were lucky enough to know him felt the warmth of his heart every day.”
The post concluded: “Any contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and help ease some of the weight on his family as they navigate this loss. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser is deeply appreciated. Thank you for helping us honor Chad’s memory and support the people — and animals — he loved most.”
After news broke of Spodick’s death, his loved ones took to social media to celebrate his life.
“Completely shocked. R.I.P. I’ve met so many acquaintances and friends on this site — some of whom I have never met in person but observed from the sides how amazing their lives were,” a friend shared via Facebook. “Chad S is one such guy. He just celebrated his birthday weeks ago on November 26 and his love of aviation via his work is a gift. Feel sad about his dogs and beloved pet bird. Sending prayers to his loved ones and family.”
Another tribute read, “I’m absolutely heartbroken to find out that my dear friend Chad Spodick passed away yesterday! He had just moved to Florida and we just spoke last month! I will miss you terribly! We’ve had so many great memories and I’ll cherish them forever!”
