The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is sharing an update on the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
“The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are aware of a new message regarding Nancy Guthrie,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a statement via X on Friday, February 6. “Investigators are actively inspecting the information provided in the message for its authenticity.”
Although authorities did not provide additional info, local news outlet 13 News claimed they received a new message regarding Nancy’s disappearance and forwarded the message to law enforcement.
“While this is one new piece of information, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department are still asking anyone with tips to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI,” Nanos’ latest statement continued. “The FBI continues to offer a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”
In recent days, Nancy’s children, including Savannah, Annie and Camron Guthrie, have made videos seemingly addressing a possible ransom.
In an Instagram video posted on Wednesday, February 4, Savannah appeared alongside her siblings and addressed the reports about an alleged ransom letter in the media.
“As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk,” she said. “However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please, reach out to us.”
One day later, Camron spoke out about his mom’s disappearance and once again pleaded for his mom’s safe return.
“This is Camron Guthrie, and I’m speaking for the Guthrie family,” he said in the Thursday, February 5, Instagram video. “Whoever is out there holding our mother, we want to hear from you. We haven’t heard anything directly. We need you to reach out, and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward. But first, we have to know if you have our mom. We want to talk to you and we are waiting for contact.”
News broke on February 1 that Nancy, 84, was reported missing in Arizona. As of Friday, police had yet to name any suspects or persons of interest.
FBI Special Agent Heith Janke previously confirmed in a press conference that the FBI is aware of an alleged ransom letter sent to news outlets, noting that “any action taken on any ransom is ultimately decided by the family.” He also revealed that the FBI arrested an “imposter” trying to “profit” off of the case with a separate, fake ransom note.
Janke noted that the alleged ransom note had an initial deadline of 5 p.m. on February 5, which is around the same time Camron posted his video. If that deadline was missed, the note offered Monday, February 9, as a second option.
Throughout the investigation, Savannah has asked for the public’s help in locating her mom. The Today show coanchor also expressed her wishes that people join in prayer that the Guthrie family will be reunited with Nancy.
“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” Savannah wrote via Instagram on Monday, February 2. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment.”
