HELLO! is delighted to exclusively reveal all the details of the next novel from internationally best-selling author Liane Moriarty, which will be the long-awaited sequel to Big Little Lies.
Titled Big Little Truths, the book takes readers back to the lives of Madeline, Celeste, Jane, Renata and Bonnie in Pirriwee, Australia, ten years after the first novel ended.
We are also delighted to reveal the UK cover of the book, which HELLO! can confirm will be published in the UK on August 27.
An A-list cast for Big Little Lies
Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Zoe Kravitz starred in the hit television adaptation of Big Little Lies, and a new series based on Big Little Truths will shortly begin filming.
“This is the first time I’ve written a sequel so I was nervous but I found it such a joy to return to Pirriwee with Celeste, Madeline and Jane. It felt like I was catching up with old friends who I hadn’t seen in a decade. I really hope readers experience that same sense of a reunion,” Liane says.
“Of course I’ve changed since I wrote Big Little Lies, and the world has changed, so it was fascinating to think about how these characters might have changed too, especially as they deal with the challenges of raising teens.”
Ten years later…
Readers of Big Little Lies will know that, when we last caught up with characters Madeline, Celeste, Jane, Renata and Bonnie their children were at primary school. A decade on in Big Little Truths, the children are now in high school and navigating all the dramas the teenage years bring.
The story begins when the principal of the high school receives a severed human finger in the post. But our heroines have other things to think about: Celeste’s mother-in-law, Mary Louise, is behaving oddly while Jane faces a dangerous chapter in her marriage and Madeline confronts the biggest challenge of her life.
Meanwhile, Bonnie starts to look beyond yoga, and Renata is living her best life. But when a strange man begins asking lots of questions, all the women must work out how to deal with the consequences of the big little truths they have – and have not – shared with their children.
This is Liane’s 11th novel. The Australian-born writer, 59, who has sold more than 20million books worldwide, lives in Sydney with her husband and their children.
Her first novel, Three Wishes, was written as part of her master’s degree at Macquarie University in Sydney and was published in 2004. The Husband’s Secret made her name in 2013, but it wasn’t until the TV adaptation of Big Little Lies was released in 2017 that she was catapulted to international fame.
Other productions based on her novels include Apples Never Fall and Nine Perfect Strangers while Nicole Kidman is also involved with an adaptation of Here One Moment.
