Lily Allenâs new album is not for the faint of heart. The English singer and songwriter released her album, West End Girl, on Friday, October 24 and it is stirring up a lot of drama. The 40-year-oldâs first album in seven years details the breakdown of her marriage with Stranger Things actor David Harbour, 49. The couple married in 2020 and confirmed their breakup in February 2025. In a conversation with Perfect magazine, Lily shared that making West End Girl âwas incredibly manicâ and âemotionally traumatic.â
While the album isnât the first time Lily has alluded to her feelings about her breakup â she said on her podcast, Miss Me?, that âmen like [women] young and dumbâ after David was spotted with his new girlfriend, 27-year-old Ellie Beers Fallon â it is the most explicit and soul bearing. So, what did Lily reveal in her new album? HELLO! dug into every bombshell the singer dropped about her âcheatingâ ex.
In two songs on the album, âTennisâ and âMadeline,â the singer references a woman named âMadeline.â She sings: âI canât get my head round how youâve been playing tennis / If it was just sex, I wouldnât be jealous / You wonât play with me and whoâs Madeline?â Later, Lily continues: âIf it was just sex I wouldnât be jealous / You wonât play with me and who the [expletive] is Madeline?â
While not confirmed by either Lily or David, in âMadelineâ the singer insinuates their open marriage went array. She sings: âWe had an arrangement / Be discrete and donât be blatant / There had to be payment / It had to be with strangers / But youâre not a stranger, Madeline.â In the same song, a person with an American accent says: âOur relationship has only ever been about sex.â
On the opening track of the album, Lily insinuates that David is jealous of her. She sings: âAnd they were like âHey, youâve got a lead in a playâhttps://www.hellomagazine.com/âYouâve gotta be back in London for rehearsals in Mayâ / And then later that evening you said how was my day / I said âI got some good news, I got the lead in a playâ / Thatâs when your demeanour started to change / You said that Iâd have to audition, I said âYouâre derangedâ
Purchasing their New York brownstone made Lily uncomfortable
On the albumâs title track, Lily opens up about her move from London to New York City. She and David bought a brownstone in Brooklyn â that was later featured in Architectural Digest. The singer says in the song: ââNow Iâm looking at houses / With four or five floors / And you found us a brownstone / Said, âYou want it? Itâs yoursâ / I could never afford this / You were pushing it forward / Made me feel a bit awkward.â
Lily still endures sleepless nights over her breakup with David
In the song âRuminating,â Lily shares her struggles with the breakup. She sings: âI canât shake the image of her naked / On top of you, and Iâm disassociated / Did you kiss her on the lips and look into her eyes? Now that itâs done / Baby, wonât you tell me that Iâm still your number one? / âCause youâre my number one.â
The singer discovered David was using his apartment for their open relationship
Lily shocked listeners on the song âPussy Palace,â where dives into her discovery that David used their apartment in the West Village as his âpussy palace.â She sings: âI found a shoebox full of handwritten letters / From brokenhearted women wishing you could have been better / Sheets pulled off the bed / Strewn all on the floor / Long black hair probably from the night before.âÂ
And later goes on: âDuane Reade bag with the handles tied / Sex toys, butt plugs, lube inside / Hundreds of Trojans, youâre so fucking broken / Howâd I get caught up in your double life?â
