Ethan Hawke, 55, joined by rarely-seen teen daughters for red carpet

Ethan Hawke was honored at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Friday February 6, with the American Riviera Award, and to help him celebrate, he was joined by his rarely-seen teen daughters.

The award recognizes outstanding achievement in American film and was presented by Academy Award and Golden Globe Award-winner Jeff Bridges, who walked the red carpet alongside Ethan, wife Ryan, and daughters Clementine and Indiana.

Clementine, 17, wore a white floral slip dress with a white cardigan for the evening out in Santa Barbara, while 14-year-old sister Indiana rocked a short navy blue slip dress with lace detailing. Mom Ryan wore a gorgeous gold metallic bodycon gown with art deco design.

Ethan met Ryan when she was a nanny for his eldest children, Maya and Levon, whom he welcomed with ex-wife Uma Thurman. Ethan has always insisted that their relationship began a year after his divorce from Uma, which occurred for reasons unrelated to Ryan. They tied the knot in June 2008.

Ethan is an actor, author, and filmmaker who has worked for over four decades, and is known for his collaborations with director Richard Linklater and his love of independent movies.

He gained recognition for starring in Dead Poets Society (1989) alongside Robin Williams and starred in the acclaimed cult films Reality Bites (1994) and Before Sunrise (1995).

He was awarded a Daytime Emmy Award in 2017 and has received five Oscar nominations, including two for the Before Sunrise franchise, as well as three Golden Globe nominations, two BAFTA nominations, and a Tony nomination. He is once again nominated for a BAFTA and Oscar for his work in Blue Moon (2025).

His eldest children, Maya and Levon, have both followed in his footsteps, with Maya known for her work in Netflix’s Stranger Things. She made her screen debut in 2017 in BBC’s Little Women and Ethan called it “one of the most amazing moments of my life.”

“She didn’t do a good job, she did a great job. To see your child thrive, and to see her thrive at a profession that you have a lot of respect for, that I’ve dedicated my life to, I was so proud of her,” he said.

They worked together in the 2020 Showtime limited series The Good Lord Bird.

Levon has also dabbled in acting, but has found himself in the center of the fashion world, and often joins his mom at fashion events like Dior couture shows.

Ethan previously revealed that when Clementine was born, Maya loved to babysit her new sister, and Clementine appeared with her father at SBFF in 2021 when he presented the Montecito award to actress Amanda Seyfried.

In 2020, Maya and Levon created a COVID-19 bubble with their father and sisters, and they shared a family jam session as they performed “To Live Is to Fly,” with Indiana and Clementine joining in the harmonies.
