Eric Stonestreet is joining the world of Dexter Morgan.

The Emmy winner, 53, is set to appear in the upcoming drama series Dexter: Resurrection, Deadline reports. Stonestreet will reportedly portray Kansas City native Al, who is suspected to be a serial killer.

The Modern Family alum will appear in four episodes. Stonestreet will also join other rumored serial killers, including Neil Patrick Harris and Krysten Ritter, per Deadline.

Following the report, Stonestreet posted the announcement to his Instagram, and wrote, “I too have some free agency news. Very excited to work with this outstanding group of people.”

The show’s official Instagram account also announced the news with a promotional graphic and welcomed Stonestreet to the series. “The killer cast keeps growing…. welcome @ericstonestreet 🔪 #DexterResurrection.”

A representative for Stonestreet did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information.

The new series will chronicle the latest chapter for serial killer and Miami Metro Police Department blood pattern analyst Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). It is set for a summer premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime.

Alongside Hall, Stonestreet, Harris, Ritter, the cast will also include Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Emilia Suárez and Dexter alumni Jennifer Carpenter, David Zayas, James Remar and Jack Alcott.

The original series followed Dexter as he investigated murders in the homicide division while also secretly killing criminals who had escaped the justice system. The show, which ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013, received numerous awards during its run, including four Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Eight years later, the first Dexter spinoff series, Dexter: New Blood, premiered. The series ran from November 2021 to January 2022. Then, in December 2024, the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin premiered. The new series follows a young Dexter, played by Patrick Gibson, as he starts a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department and learns to harness his serial killer ways.

Dexter: Resurrection will pick up where Original Sin left off.

Clyde Phillips returns as showrunner and will serve as an executive producer alongside Scott Reynolds, Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns. Marcos Siega will serve as producing director and direct six episodes, and Monica Raymund will direct another four episodes.
