Emma Stone has a whole new look.

The actress, 36, stepped out for the 2025 Golden Globes on Jan. 5 and showed off her new pixie cut for the first time after fans speculated that she’d gone for the big chop for her latest role in Yorgos Lanthimos’ movie Bugonia.

For the Los Angeles awards show, Stone wore a bold red gown but all eyes were on her cropped hair — a short pixie cut with the little bit of growth from recently shaving her head.

Back in October, Stone was seen in New York filming Bugonia — the fourth film she’s made with Lanthimos after The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness — and she had a hat firmly on her head in all the photos that were posted online, leading fans to surmise that she had, in fact, cut off all her hair for the role.

InStyle also pointed to a clip shared on X of the actress at the New York Film Festival, where she was rocking her signature red hair but looked to be adjusting it at the crown, as if it was a wig.

Stone is all about changing up her hair — she even let her Kinds of Kindness costar Joe Alwyn cut it for that film. In a cast video shared with PEOPLE earlier this year, they were all asked what people would be surprised to know about Stone.

“She is also trustworthy. I cut her hair, which just means cutting off her ponytail, but even so!” Alwyn says.

“She’s very funny,” says Mamoudou Athie, adding, “I mean, I guess you could see her movies and assume that, maybe.”

Stone has kept a low profile since filming Bugonia and the Golden Globes mark the first major event that the actress has stepped out for since working on the movie. Though she’s not nominated this year, she’s at the award show as the reigning winner of the best performance by a female actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy. Stone took home the trophy last year for her role in Poor Things, another Lanthimos project.

This year, the nominees in that category are Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Cynthia Erivo (Wicked), Karla SofĂa GascĂłn (Emilia PĂ©rez), Mikey Madison (Anora), Demi Moore (The Substance) and Zendaya (Challengers).

Stone previously also won a Golden Globe in 2017 for her role in La La Land, which also starred Ryan Gosling. She’s been nominated six other times in her career.

Bugonia is slated to release on Nov. 7.
