Dwyane Wade revealed his “shocking” cancer diagnosis, more than one year after undergoing kidney surgery.

The retired NBA player had 40 percent of his right kidney removed due to a cancerous tumor when he went under the knife in December 2023, he revealed in Thursday’s episode of his “The Why With Dwyane Wade” podcast.

While the athlete did not give an update on his current health status, the 43-year-old recalled the symptoms he experienced prior to the procedure that led him to seek help.

In addition to stomach issues and cramps, Wade went into his “full body scan” wondering, “Why is my piss coming out slow, why is my stream ain’t powerful? Why is it a little weak?”

The Olympian called the cancer battle the “weakest point” of his life.

“I think it was the first time that my family, my dad, my kids, they saw me weak,” Wade said, admitting that he “was struggling” when by himself.

However, he “found strength” in his family members.

Wade, who is a father of five, said, “I saw my family that may not always talk, may not always agree. I saw everybody show up for me and be there for me.

“As a man, you never want your family to see you weak,” he continued. “Don’t want to be perceived weak, don’t want to be seen in your weakest moments but I had to.”

The former Miami Heat player’s wife, Gabrielle Union, has yet to comment on his reveal.

One month after Wade’s surgery, Union shared a sweet Instagram video of their daughter, Kaavia, singing “Happy Birthday” to ring in her dad’s 42nd year.

“We’re so blessed to spend year after year with you,” the actress, 52, wrote at the time.

When Wade turned 43 earlier this month, he did not feel up to celebrating amid Los Angeles County’s devastating wildfires.

He explained to podcast listeners that Union, however, “wanted to make sure [they] did something.”

“So we had a beautiful celebration for my 43rd birthday down at Jason and Dara’s new bar that has not opened yet called Damn I Miss Paris,” Wade said. “It’s a vibe. But it was a time when we all needed to be together.”

He and the “Bring It On” star have been married since 2014, welcoming Kaavia via surrogate four years later.

Wade shares Zaire and Zaya with ex-wife Siouhvaughn Funches, as well as Xavier with Aja Metoyer.

The former point guard is also the legal guardian of 23-year-old nephew Dahveon.
