Christy Carlson Romano tearfully admitted that a recent cancer screening test she took came back positive.
Taking to her Instagram Wednesday, the Disney Channel alum told fans that she and her husband, Brendan Rooney, both went in for testing âthe other dayâ to check on their health.
âMy husbandâs [results] came back completely negative. Mine did not come back negative,â Romano, 41, said while getting emotional.
âThe next steps are to get a PET scan [but] Iâm fighting with companies to get that covered.â
Romano explained that her family has a history of the disease, with both of her parents being diagnosed with cancer over the years.
While her mother ultimately âbeat it,â Romano said her father âeventually didnât.â Her maternal grandmother also died of lung cancer.
After revealing the results, the âEven Stevensâ star went on to share a story about fellow actor James Van Der Beek, who died last week at the age of 48 after a battle with colorectal cancer.
The podcaster explained that she knew the âDawsonâs Creekâ actor and his wife, Kimberly, as they also lived in Texas with their six kids.
âI live in Austin, and I was able to meet James Van Der Beek a bunch. His familyâs amazing. Heâs a pillar of our community in Texas,â Romano shared. âThey always were raising money for the most amazing charities, and heâs not with us anymore. Cancer is everywhere. Which is why I got this test.â
The mom of two noted that she was in âdisbeliefâ about her results and hoped to ânot think about it much.â
Instead, she told fans that she is putting her energy into her upcoming memoir and filming for a movie.
â[This is a] very vulnerable time for me,â Romano divulged. âAbout 367 days since I got shot in the face.â
The âCadet Kellyâ alum was referring to an incident that happened last February, when she was âshot in the faceâ while shooting clay pigeons for her husbandâs birthday.
At the time, she said she was âgrateful to be aliveâ after the mishap.
Despite all her recent trials and tribulations, Romano â who shares daughters Isabella, 9, and Sophia, 7, with Rooney â is keeping a positive outlook on life.
âItâs time to have a strong sense of faith and know that itâs in Godâs hands, most of it. Iâm sure people think Iâm overreacting, but Iâm not, because cancer is pretty serious, and I have two little girls,â Romano expressed in her IG video Tuesday.
âWhen youâre somebody like me, you kinda have to take life a day at a time, really be grateful for all the amazing stuff around you. Thatâs why I always try to make jokes, and I try to be funny. Not just because Iâm trying to be liked, or stay relevant.â
Romano further admitted in the caption for the post that she was ânervous and a bit scaredâ to even share the news so publicly out of fear of coming off as âcringe.â
âIâm going in for a PET scan later this week and hopefully itâs something easy to treatđ€,â she added. âLetâs keep the good vibes going and I will keep you all posted as I get more information.â
The actressâ husband later took to the comments section to show his support.
âYou got this my beautiful wife,â Rooney, 43, wrote. âWe will figure this out and destroy any problem that comes your way. I love you beyond words.â
Romano has always been open with her followers on social media, especially after what happened last winter when she was accidentally âshot in the eye.â
Luckily, the âKim Possibleâ alumâs vision wasnât impaired, but it was âtoo riskyâ for her to undergo surgery to remove the fragment, she explained via Instagram at the time.
âWith everything that happened, all I can think about is how grateful I am to be alive,â she said.
âI love my daughters, husband, family, and friends so much. I saw my life flash before my eyes and Iâm telling you, hug the people around you every chance you can. Life can change in an instant. đ.â
