Dick Van Dyke barely escaped his Malibu mansion as wildfires engulfed the surrounding area in flames.
On Thursday, the âMary Poppinsâ star told a local news outlet that he had âexhaustedâ himself trying to untangle his fire hose when his neighbors came to the rescue.
âIt was coming from the hill, you could see it,â Van Dyke recalled of the blaze.
âI was trying to crawl to the car, I had exhausted myself, I couldnât get up,â he continued. âAnd three neighbors came and carried me out.
The beloved actor, who turns 99 on Friday, said the heroic citizens even âcame backâ to his home to âput out a little fire in the guest house.â
â[They] saved me,â he said.
Ring footage showed Van Dyke and his wife Arlene Silver evacuating the property with the help of their neighbors.
However, the pair revealed on Facebook that one of their pets had gone missing during the mayhem.
âArlene and I have safely evacuated with our animals except for Bobo escaped as we were leaving,â Van Dyke wrote on Facebook Tuesday.
âWeâre praying heâll be ok and that our community in Serra Retreat will survive these terrible fires.â
Thankfully, Bobo was waiting for Van Dyke and Silver, 53, when they returned to their home on Wednesday.
âWe found Bobo as soon as we arrived back home this morning,â he added in an update alongside a photo of the furry orange feline.
âThere was so much interest in his disappearance that Animal Control was called in to assist. But, thankfully he was easy to find and not harmed .â
The Franklin Fire started as a small brushfire on Monday night. However, it quickly spread beyond the Pacific Coast Highway, incinerating over 4000 acres in Malibu and causing thousands to evacuate the area.
Other stars impacted by the inferno included Cher, Barbra Streisand, Ricki Lake, Mark Hamill and more.
Earlier this week, Cherâs publicist told the New York Times she and her pets had safely checked into a hotel.
Hamill, for his part, told his Instagram followers he was âin lockdown because of the Malibu fires.â
âPlease stay safe everyone! Iâm not allowed to leave the house, which fits in perfectly with my elderly-recluse lifestyle.â
