Diary of a Wimpy Kid actor Zachary Gordon had a brush with his own past aboard a flight, when he caught a fellow passenger watching him in an in-flight movie.

On Tuesday, Feb. 18, the actor took to Instagram to share his view from on board an airplane — and someone just a few rows ahead watching the film for which he’s best known.

“Should I tell them? 👀🤫,” the actor wrote in the caption, adding the hashtags, #airplane #actor and #oops.

Gordon and actor Robert Capron played the leads in the three live-action movies released from 2010 to 2012 that were based on the bestselling Wimpy Kid book series.

Gordon, now 27, starred in Wimpy Kid as Greg Heffley, while Capron, also 27, appeared as Rowley, Greg’s friend.

The ensemble also included Steve Zahn, Rachael Harris, Devon Bostick and Chloë Grace Moretz, among others.

The original live-action film, based on the books by Jeff Kinney, was released in 2010, and the sequels Rodrick RulesDog Days and The Long Haul followed each year afterward. (Gordon did not appear in The Long Haul.)

In September 2024, Gordon, Capron and author Kinney had a mini-reunion, with Kinney sharing a photo on X of the two actors together.

“These kids and their backwards hats and Mountain Dews and chocolate chip cookies,” Kinney wrote in a caption. “Good seeing you fellas.”

Capron had fun with their reunion photo after it spread on social media. “Yes chef,” he wrote in an Instagram post on Sept. 24, featuring a screengrabbed X post of the photo that misspelled his name as “Robert Apron.” Capron added an image of his face superimposed over a kitchen apron as a punch line.

Meanwhile, the official Diary of a Wimpy Kid Instagram account wrote in a comment, “Would buy.”

The two have also reunited elsewhere, and posed for a photo Gordon shared to social media in March 2012, which Gordon captioned, “Zoo-Wee-Mama 🧀🤞🏻,” in reference to the movies.

Since Wimpy Kid, Gordon has continued his work as an actor, and has appeared in movies like American Pie Presents: Girls’ RulesDreamcatcher and Max Dagan in recent years.
