Britney Spears is fearing the worst case scenario following her shocking DUI arrest on Wednesday.
âSheâs devastated,â a source close to the pop princess exclusively tells Page Six, noting that the encounter âhas scared the crap out of her.â
âBritney knows she has to face the consequences whatever they may be,â they said, noting that her inner circle is âjust praying it is rehab and not jail.â
The source also explains that the âPiece of Meâ songstress âknows whatâs happened is very, very bad and has the potential to impact not just her life, but everyone around her, especially her boys,â Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.
They added, âShe feels a lot of regret over what has happened.â
The insider noted that âthe last thing she wants is to go to jailâ and alleged that the âStrongerâ hitmaker âhas no one to blame but herself. And she is well aware of that.â
While Spears, 44, contemplates the possibility of spending time in jail, our source explains that âthe people around her are working on a plan.â
âThey would very much like to get her into a treatment center so she can have the time and space to get herself healthy and on the right track. It would be a medical detox,â the insider divulges to us.
âThis is not about getting her back to work, this is about Britney living a fulfilled and healthy life with her boys and her family. That is her priority right now. She just wants to be a good mom and to be happy.â
Our source also shares that her sons âare with her right nowâ as she faces the consequences â whatever they may be.
âThey love her and want to support her and just want her to feel better,â our source says. They explain that âeveryone is just waiting to see what the testsâ on what was found in her car reveal.
Page Six can also confirm that âThe Woman in Meâ author decided to part ways with âsome staffâ in the weeks leading up to her arrest.
Spears was arrested by the California Highway Patrol in Ventura County, Calif., on Wednesday night on suspicion of driving under the influence after she was seen weaving her BMW in and out of traffic.
She was detained around 9:28 p.m. and booked at 3:02 a.m. Thursday.
Spears was also transported to a local hospital to have blood drawn so authorities could determine her blood alcohol levels. She was released from custody at 6:07 a.m. Thursday. Sheâs scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
The iconic singer was believed to be under the influence of a cocktail of drugs and alcohol at the time of her arrest, according to the California Highway Patrol.
âThis was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable,â Cade Hudson, Spearsâ manager, told Page Six on Thursday, noting that âBritney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britneyâs life.â
He added, âHopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.â
Spears â who was released from a restrictive 13-year conservatorship back in 2021 â now faces renewed scrutiny.
However, a legal expert told Page Six on Friday that it will take more than a DUI for Spears to land back in another conservatorship.
âAlthough a DUI arrest could be a factor for the imposition of another conservatorship, by no means would a conviction on a DUI result in the imposition of a conservatorship,â attorney Sean R. Weissbart told Page Six on Friday.
âLetâs be clear, the penalty for DUI is not the imposition of a conservatorship,â he emphasized. âIt could be probation, it could be a fine, it could be community service, it could potentially even be incarcerated for a sentence.â
âBut itâs not the imposition of a conservatorship, right? There would have to be a pattern that demonstrates that sheâs truly incapable, on a long-term basis, of managing her personal affairs,â he explained.
