Nothing ever seems to be peaceful in the world of Wendy Williams.
Amid her battle with her court-appointed guardian, and after her ugly divorce battle, the talk show legend is now locked in a fight with her former friend and executive producer over a documentary that was supposed to celebrate her career.
Williamsâ lawyer says that she was blindsided by news of Peacock docuseries âClap If You Careâ â but insiders say sheâs known about the project since the beginning.
Power attorney Joe Tacopina told Page Six Williams had âno heads up about anythingâ before the NBC streamer announced the 3-parter produced by âWendy Williams Showâ EP Suzanne Bass.
âSuzanne never said that she was executive producing a documentary about âThe Wendy Williams Show.â There was never a discussion she had with Wendy,â Tacopina said.
Williamsâ former protege, Charlamagne tha God and his âBreakfast Clubâ co-host, Loren LoRosa, first reported that Williams was taken off guard by the announcement. Charlamagne said he refused to participate in the documentary because Williams wasnât part of it. He further claimed those closest to Wendy, like her news anchor niece Alex Finnie, did not know about the project either.
The doc is billed as a series that will celebrate Williamsâ âoutrageous fun, cultural impact, and meteoric rise.â
But sources told us itâs Bass whoâs been blindsided by Williamsâ response.
A source close to Bass told Page Six, Williams âabsolutelyâ knew the doc was in the works and insists that âSuzanne told her she was doing it twice!â
âSheâs had so many dinners with Wendy, and theyâve talked about doing talking panels together, podcasts, documentaries⊠It was a whole thing. Wendy being blindsided is bullsh-t,â they said.
Tacopina explained Bass âasked Wendy almost a year ago about if Wendy would be interested in doing any press surrounding her life and situation. Wendy said, âNo!ââ he said, adding, âWendy has not talked to Suzanne now in months.â (Our source claims she and Bass last spoke in June).
âShe absolutely was blindsided, and only found out about this project when people started reaching out to her saying, âPeacock is doing a documentary about her career/life and Suzanne is the EP,â he continued.
âTwo weeks later, the project was announced online. She had no heads up about anything,â Tacopina maintained.
Netflix is reportedly working on another documentary about Williams. She reportedly was unaware of that project as well. âClap If You Careâ is slated for a 2027 release. Former âWendyâ regular, Chris Witherspoon, is also listed as an EP, along with Bass.
Bass could not be reached for comment and a rep for Peacock did not get back to us.
