Denis Leary knows his strengths.
The actor, 67, who has been married to his wife Ann since 1989, admits he has a go-to when it comes to honey-do chores. âListen, hereâs my thing. Iâm a guy who canât cook,â he tells PEOPLE for this weekâs issue. âI grew up in the city. If you wanted food, you walked maybe down the end of the block or you called it in. But I was a dishwasher. It was one of my jobs when I was younger that I loved and I was good at it.â
Now whenever his wife cooks, Leary knows his role. âI can do the dishes so I did them last night after dinner,â he adds. âIf you donât cook, you clean. Itâs a good rule. â
Leary, who stars in Netflixâs No Good Deed and the new Fox series Going Dutch, sat down with PEOPLE for One Last Thing:
Last time I sang out loud
I was just singing âAlisonâ by Elvis Costello 15 minutes ago. Itâs also a great way to warm up my voice before I do a live gig. Iâm not a great singer. Iâm a great yeller.
Last thing I learned about myself
As Iâve gotten older, Iâve realized certain things donât mean as much â like Iâm still a huge sports fan, but losing doesnât bother me. The most important thing becomes your family and how theyâre doing.
Last superstition
When Iâm getting dressed to play hockey, everything on the left side, shin pad, skate, it all goes on first. Then the right side. Iâve been doing it since I was a kid.
Last thing I do before I go onstage
The guy who usually intro-duces me wasnât able to, so I said, âIâll just do it myself. Itâll be an inside joke.â A lot of people in the audience could tell, so it was like, âHow big of an ego does this guy have?â Plus it made all of them smile, so I think thatâs my thing now.
No Good Deed is now streaming on Netflix. Going Dutch airs on Fox on Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET.
